Saturday

The nurse just came in and said that she had taken off the rails of the bed and lowered it so we could sit next to mom and say goodbye, that she didn't think mom would make it through the day. Her apnea is about 45 seconds between breathes and her heart beat is escalating.

And say "hello" to my nephew Dylan who surprised me and popped in yesterday. He lives in Missouri and is probably feeling a bit sad that he can't be here - he and mother are quite close.

Hope you have a peaceful day, Eve.

Hello Dylan, you have a very special Aunt and I guess Aunty Bebo too. Must be hard for all the family.

I hope you have one last chance at a goodbye but if not a peaceful passing is hoped for. The hospice nurses sound wonderful. My best friend is a nurse and I do believe they're the ones who truly care.

Eve, I remember how hard that was. Usually I sat there all alone. I'm so glad you have Bebo and Dylan with you.

Hi, Dylan. I'm glad you were able to come and be some support to your aunts and be there for your grandmother.

After the nurse phoned my siblings on Sunday, my sister came down with her two youngest and Seth, my mother's great-grandson. My niece, I suppose, took a picture of him sitting beside my mother.

And, Eve, please don't rush back to work. You need some time to wind down or up, whichever it is. Taking care of your mom so long will have drained you a lot. Don't take on too much right away. Of course, my mother was older when my father died, but she tried to do all his jobs as well as her own. Unfortunately, I'd broken a bone in my right foot soon after he died and I wasn't even able to hobble on the lawn because of all the bumps and shallows in it. I was supposed to be using crutches but I couldn't because my hands are too weak. But my mother became quite ill about 6 months after my father died. I had said to a friend that she was taking my father's death almost too well.

So don't rush into new things; take it easy. I'm glad you got a lot of things done already.

Thanks so much, Bebo, for sharing the burden with Eve. You are definitely making it lighter for her as she probably lightened your burden when your husband died last year. You both have that shared experience.

I felt that my mother could hear better during those last few days than she could before. I sang her songs, played some of her favorite hymns on my little CD and talked to her. I'm sure that's what you're doing as well.

Hugs, thoughts and many prayers.
