I Knew I Hated Cleaning

I knew there was a reason I’d been avoiding cleaning my desk. I have to have it cleaned off, and the study in at least respectable order by Monday, so I really only had today and maybe a little bit on Friday and Saturday afternoons to work on it. (Sunday is out – more on that in another blog) I found a way that worked for me. Since I’m still in that beginning of the story stage, where everything is exciting and you can’t wait to work on it – I used writing as a reward. Clean something, write for an hour, clean something, write for an hour. Today, I managed to take out the garbage; fold a hamper and a half of clean laundry and get it put away (I know, and I don’t iron either); and clean approximately ¾ of my desk. That’s when I discovered why I’d been avoiding the pile on the desk. The top of the pile wasn’t hard – just things I’d thrown up there recently. It was further down that threw me. Mother. Man, I wasn’t expecting that. Her hospice papers, cards she had given me full of words of love; and smack, dab in the middle of it they broke in to the show I was watching with President Ford’s funeral in Michigan. Flags, God Bless America (mom’s favorite), the whole enchilada and suddenly I was reminded of my father’s funeral – and well, put a bit of a damper on my afternoon.

But I did manage to get 1,456 words written. Yeah, you read that right, 1,456 words; 2,489 total word count. It’s going well. The grammar is terrible, and some of the details aren’t fleshed out – I’m just writing to get the story down, I’ll go back and fix the other stuff later.

Oh, and that’s Baileyboo (also known as BooBear) and Aidan.

Oh, I almost forgot. I need your help. I can't go a lot further without knowing what Jake, Jared's brother, looks like. Remember, Jared is Brendan Fraser. Anyway, Jake is about 28 years old, an EMT who's changing his career to fireman. Tha's about it on him now, but I need to know what he looks like because he's integral to some scenes (one I'm working on now). Just give me your suggestions.

hm, first one??? that is unusual!!

So, I know I have not been around! I can not figure out what has been going on...well other than driving my daughter all over!! But I sure miss you!

Oh Brian got to go to the Fiesta Bowl--needless to say he was OH SO GLAD he got to go :) what a game! AND I DON'T EVEN WATCH FOOTBALL! :)

I will have to think about Jake-the first thing I thought was my brother :) but he looks more like Sly Stone than Brendan Fraser...but if I do say so myself...he is quite handsome :)

OH AND GREAT JOB!!! almost 1500 words! That is soooo very awesome!

I think you're doing great with the writing. Huh, as for Jake, I guess Noah Wylie is too obvious? Ooh, too bad that kid that used to play on Gilmore Girls and now Supernatural isn't older!
So sorry to hear that you have been a bit down, but it's natural. This year with all the Christmas carols and singing along, I would start singing and sometimes a phrase I sang wold sound EXACTLY like my Mom (she was an Alto, I'm a Sop.) but I could hear it and I would feel so lost. So, things are like a rollercoaster, there are good days (the highs) and sad days (the dips). Anyway, sorry to get mauldin. Will say a prayer for you on the cleaning and your reward system seems to work, right? *g*

Ah, Bailey, memories can be hard on one. Sometimes they get you right out of left field, too. (((Hugs)))

Excellent job on the word-count, however!!

How about a Matthew Fox type for the EMT? Or a Josh Holloway? Um ... maybe I should go now before my LOST DTs start becoming obvious, or something ....

Dennie - That's it! Yes, David Conrad. Now I just have to find a picture that I like. He's the hero in the second book, btw.

Yay Dennie!!!!!!!!

I used to use writing as an reward for cleaning. But my cleaning is never caught up. I keep a schedule sort of like what Flylady does and just incorporate my writing into my day.

Great word count. Keep at it.

Well, that was not an easy day. I can well imagine it. So big hugs on that. I still have to do my mother's 2003 income tax. I just can't find the copy of her payments to the nursing home she was in. I phoned them up once already to get a duplicate but I had to leave voice-mail, ugh, and nobody has called back. So this reminded me that I must do it soon. We still have some money coming back from taxes. That's why it hasn't been critical. We have up to five years I think, to file income tax where we're owed money by the government.

Here's to a good writing day, or are you working?

I'm afraid I can't help you with a model for Jake. I don't even know who Brendan is. There should be some resemblance between them. Which is the older of the brothers?

I'd say not to worry about spelling and grammar. After all, you'll be doing a lot after the basic story is there: fleshing out descriptions and maybe actions, changing some words, etc. So you really did very well.

I have to get cracking on all my stuff too so that the furniture can be moved upstairs whenever I can find someone.

Do you at least make some notes while you're working at something else? Or can you remember everything? I know I couldn't. It happens even when I'm writing on a blog.

Yummy, I completely agree with Dennie's pick of David Conrad!

Keep up the fantastic job you're doing on the word count! :)

WTG on the writing accomplishment. Hmm, just looked up David Conrad on IMDB...looks good. Reminds me of Orlando Bloom.

I think you've accomplished quite a bit! (I only clean when I have to lol). And the writing is really coming along fabulously :)

I think David Conrad is a good pick.

Love the pic of your cats. None of mine sleep together like that. It's so sweet.

You're making excellent progress :) And here I thought I was the only one in the country watching all the Ford ceremonies.
