Joyce Evanovich and Janet Plum

Sometimes I love working in a bookstore .....

*phone rings* (insert name of store) “May I help you?”

(pause)

“I’m looking for a book.”

(another pause)

This is where I bite my tongue, lest I say something along the lines of “well, you’ve made a hell of a great start.” “What’s the name and the author?”

(Insert title of book that I’ve never heard of and an author whose parent’s must have been on crack when they named him) “What type of book is that?’

(pause)

“It’s a paperback.”

Oh geeze, that narrows it down… “What is it about? Is it fiction or non-fiction?”

“Umm, it’s real?”

Oh damn, those real books ….

Another scenario

*customer walks into store and up to the counter*

“May I help you?”

“I’m looking for a book.”

Oh no, not again!

“Got a title and/or author?”

“No, I can’t remember, but it’s a romance. I think the author had three names.”

Should I slit my wrists now?

“Well, do you remember what it was about?”

“Yes, it’s about a man and a woman …”

Oh, one of those

“They fall in love …”

Hence the romance part.

“But something happens and they break up …”

That would be the black moment.

“And then they get back together again.”

I swear, I’m gonna get a cattle prod.

But it’s these that I love the most …

“I’m looking for those Janet Plum books by Joyce Evanovich”

“Do you have A Christmas Story by Charles Dickinson?”

“Any westerns by Hillary, er, Hillerin?” *Tony Hillerman*

“I love those books by Linda Mary Miller.” Did she write a book about a man and a woman who fall in love, but something breaks them up …..

And thank you all so much for your kind words about Cissy. I still can't believe it, and I'm still crying at a drop of the hat, but I do feel better now.

I love “I’m looking for those Janet Plum books by Joyce Evanovich”! The sad thing is I can picture myself saying exactly that. *sigh* I don't think I could hold my tongue if got to many of those questions in one day. And I'm sure that would mean I'd be looking for a new job. *g*

I'm glad your feeling better. I do understand how you are feeling.

Since I don't have to hear the questions - that was hysterical!

It helps to keep busy but it's going to take a long time and even then it never goes away :(

Hmmm, maybe it's a good thing I don't work with the public. I would probably have to hurt someone....

He-heh! Is it bad that I thought this was hilarious? *G* How can people be that out of it?
Hugs, because I wish I could in person.

Oh let me tell you Susan, it's really hard sometimes ... LOL

Jeanne - it's pretty hysterical even when I do hear the questions.

Bebo - you would.

Brandy - yeah, I think it's pretty funny too!

And all hugs accepted, cyber and otherwise.

Ha! We had a customer come in days before Christmas this year who asked a fellow employee if she could get assistance finding a book for her husband. He had apparently come through a day or so prior and was really taken with a book. When asked for the description/title/anything the lady responded with "I don't know what the book's called actually, but it's about this big, is black, and has a tank on it".

They ended up going with a nice book on WWII and hoping that was what she wanted - I'm amazed the customer walked away happy, because it is near impossible to narrow down a book with a tank on the cover -- do you know how many there are out there?!
