Kamikaze Caterpillars

I have these little webs in my tree; I get them every year, but this year is different. This year they spawned these little caterpillars that fell from the tree, covered my car, the ramp, everywhere. They’ve never done this before. Normally, this wouldn’t bother me too much because they’re harmless, but that doesn’t mean I want them on me. It was bad enough sitting on the porch swing smoking and having to watch my feet in case one crawled up there, but now I have to contend with Kamikaze Caterpillars. You heard me. Kamikaze Caterpillars. They crawl up to the ceiling of the porch and then dive bomb me. I could swear they can see me and are doing this on purpose. I imagine them laughing at the poor human being swinging here and there to avoid having one of them fall on her. And I’m sure the neighbors are wondering just what am I smoking. Tell me that the lifespan of a caterpillar isn’t long. Tell me that this will end soon. Or I’m getting a helmet.

OMGosh, I love the helmeted avatar!! *G*
I know nothing about catepillars, sorry. I would think they would have a short life span though. Best of luck with them.

Hahaha..I love the avatar! I'm not sure the lifespan of the catapillar. Aren't they supposed to cocoon and morph into butterflies or moths or something?

I don't know anything about caterpillars either, but I'd be totally squicked out by them! Yuck!

Are they the tent catepillars. Every so many years(maybe 7) we get a horrible amount of them - they're everywhere like you described. Only thing I can say is you shouldn't get them again for a while.

I like the avatar too lol.

I would get a helmet. Don't they turn into butterflies? Perhaps these caterpillas failed in their attempt to cocoon.

I like the helmet

Ooh, Mutant Alien caterpillars who have heard of the wonder of SPAM. They want to get close to your genius.

I've heard of Muskrat Love, not Caterpillar Love.

But they kind of sound like Tent Caterpillars...they turn into moths... nothing pretty about them.
Squish them if you can.
Or call in that guy on cable who eats bugs. He'd have a bonzanza!

Sorry if I grossed you out.
I have boys.
My eldest dressed up in his first Bee suit when he was with my parents today. Got to hold a frame of honeycomb with hundreds of bees crawling, flying and walking all around him.
My brave boy.
Mommy was FAR away.
LOL

Maybe they just want a ciggie.

Ugh! Yes, they turn into really beautiful butterflies and moths, but caterpillars? Ugh.

Get a helmet. And whatever it is you're smoking, change it. :o)

I agree with Shirley. *gg*

Honey, I've seen that mass of caterpillars & you need more than a helmet. Maybe one of those suits they use for hazmat cleanup would work. But what a pain to get in & out of just for a cig...

;P

Are they going to merge together into one giant worm? There's serious sci-fi potential here. And as the woman who chased a gecko around her house, I'd go for the helmet...

From the viewpoint of an author, this sounds like real-life inspiration for a story!

reminds me of when we went to scarborough's faire back in May--they were EVERYwhere! ick!

(mini-me likes to squoosh them--double ick!)

Yikes! It sounds like a sci-fi movie..."Attack of the Kamikaze Caterpillars" *g*

Get the helmet.

Sound like our canker worms which turn into yucky moths. They cover the city trees, strip them bare of leaves and when you cycle along it is like going through long cobwebs with the caterpillars dropping out of the sky onto you. Blah!

How ya doing Bailey?

Girl, I know how you feel. I think the little devils go on missions to see if they can scare the pee out of me. I hate them! I hate them!

Actually, they are web worms, and they are bad this year because of the rain. If you can get a broom or something, try to puncture their sack/web in your trees. This will help in their demise.

Catapillar's shouldn't last really long. A couple weeks max I think.

Dru said...

oh no, not again. Hope to see you back soon.

Bailey, you OK? You've been awfully quiet lately - just wanted to send you a hug.
love Kate x

(new addy for blog btw - am joining you on Blogger!)

Duh - would've helped if I'd read all the comments (thanks for the heads-up, Dennie).

But sending you a hug anyway because you deserve one.

What the heck have they done to your internet this time?

Miss you!

Lexi said...

Okay, have the caterpillars kidnapped you and decided to hold you hostage? Where are you?

Michele said...

The Internet Kamikaze linked up with the Caterpillar Kamikaze
and shorted it out, I bet.

Sheesh, I hope this is the last problem you'll have to deal with in losing your internet, Bailey.

Being cutt off from you AND SPAM is really rough.
Hope it can get fixed faster than the last time!
HUGS
