The Tree

The tree wasn’t that old, only 28 – practically a baby in tree years, and yet it was gnarled, its branches twisted, some dead and no longer bearing leaves. For over two decades its leaves had shaded the front of the home, branches cradling nests high in the air. In the Summer it sheltered; Fall saw leaves turned yellow; its branches bare by Winter’s cold, made magical by Christmas lights wrapped around a thick trunk; but each Spring it went into bud, long wormy fuzzy things shedding all over the place, shoes trailing them into the house. A man planted the tree and ended up cursing it; a grandmother held it straight during planting; children swung from its lower limbs. Squirrels scrambled through its branches, Keystone Kop-like in their afternoon fun. It had witnessed much - sorrow, happiness, anger and pain.

The tree wasn’t that old, only 28 … and as much as I hate that tree I shall miss it very much.

So, do you have a love/hate relationship with something?

Every appliance in my house! But, seriously, I love my Dad and not so much like him. His ability to forget he has a Daughter is hurtful.

WORD and my computer(s). The desktop tells me all my W files from the laptop are corrupted and won't open them, yet they open and work on the laptop. And the desktop's the only one that has the printer software and I can't install it on the laptop because the CD is missing. So I'm in limbo

Do my thighs count? I love that they are strong and great at sports, but hate the cottage cheese that insists on encompassing them...

All of the books I have. I love them and can't part with any of them, but hate finding places to keep them all!

I love trees too, especially the ugly ones. I too have to say my computer. I'm too old to learn this much new technology. I spend too much time on it. But I would oh so miss it. And the dvd/vcr!

I love trees. All of them, but especially pine trees.

Did you know that the needles of a pine tree have at their base a sheath? And each needle within that sheath when fitted together will form a circle?

That's one fabulous design.
