Damn

I have these salt and pepper shakers that belonged to mom. They’re Christmas ones – red Santa boots with poinsettia leaves on the side. Pretty, and they’ve been in my memory forever. I’m slowly getting my Christmas stuff put away because I’m going through things and trying to decide what I can keep and what will have to go. I won’t be able to take a lot of stuff to a one bedroom apartment. Before I put these away though, I decided that they needed to be cleaned. They were a little grungy, so I thought I’d clean them a little. Putting some lukewarm water and a little soap in the sink, I left them to soak for about a half an hour. Big mistake. I took them out and watched the paint slough right off of them. Yes, my pretty red and green shakers were now white all over. I was crushed, am crushed. I don’t know what to do. Keep them, I guess, until I can figure out how to get them restored.

So, on that note, what are you doing this weekend?

Awww, sweetie. Sorry to hear that they were damaged. The memory is still there, thats what is important. But, yes, keep them. Even if you never restore them, you'll still have them.
Um, what's up with the monkey?

I like the monkey. Reminded me of someone I dated once ...

Hahahaha!!!

I'm sorry to hear that they've been damaged. Like Brandy said, you'll always have the memory of them.

Do you have a picture of them? If so, then it should be easy to restore.

Too funny about the monkey...was it roaming hands and not enough brains?

More like he looked like one, and had this thing with bananas ...

Oh, and no, there isn't a picture. But I kept some of the paint chips. And the poinsetta leaves are lined out so it would be pretty easy for someone to repaint them. I'm not artistically inclined that way.

This weekend?
Shovelling...er...snow.

I'll be at work - shoveling books. And then, of course, on Sunday I'll be at The House.

See if your local college/university (or even high school) has a ceramics program. They might be able to take on the challenge. I have my grandmother's pig s/p shakers--two sets. And when I moved, I disovered ancient salt and pepper inside. AchOOOO!

You see, that's part of the problem, I don't want to let "unprofessional" strangers work on them. The shakers wouldn't be as important to them as they are to me. Plus, I had a "hair" disaster with beauty school students. Sorry, I'm not falling for that again. Yeah, it was the ancient salt/pepper that had me thinking about the cleanliness of the shakers. We still used them.

Although, I do have this friend ...

Glenice? Where are you Glenice?

Okay, I've got to finish getting ready for work, which will take a bit longer this morning as I have to scrape the windshield.

That's sad--maybe there's a message in there about starting over? Some deep and meaningfull dimension. Hope you can get them restored, better than ever.

I'm writing today--now. DH just took kids out swimming and then to a Brownie fundraiser *shudder* (sorry Meretta ;) They have orders to bring back goodies :)

I hate it when stuff like that happens!

(((Bailey)))

I'm BICHOKing.

LOL. Toni. I shudder sometimes, too (both as a leader and a parent). Don't tell anyone! I don't want my membership revoked. ;)

Oh, I'm so sorry. It's different when you decide to get rid of something instead of having it taken away (or semi-destroyed) for you.

As for me this weekend, I'm gearing up to watch the Stupid Bowl, er, Super Bowl. My team's not playing, but I love watching the big game anyway. Oh, yeah. I should do some writing too. Maybe.

I had a set of wine glasses that did that to me but they had no meaning for me like your shakers. It's going to be hard to get them the way you remember them I'm afraid.

I think the salt would have been ok but probably not the pepper.

Aw (((Bailey)) sorry hon. I like Toni's idea ... a sort of metaphysical symbol of starting over, and building some new Christmas messages on those beautiful old ones. And that's how you could view a new paint job, perhaps??

I'm BICHOKING!!!! hehehehhe ...

Bailey Stewart said...

Okay Loreth, you've been warned about the BICHOK thing. *gg* And I'm sticking to my guns on it too.

I have an idea who can restore them for me ... Glenice, where are you?!

Bailey Stewart said...

And you would like Toni's idea - she knows what BICHOK means!

Ahaha -- I can just imagine what that little Brit thinks!!!:) :) :)

(And I say that will all fondness in my heart, Toni, you know that :) )

Bailey Stewart said...

I mean it Loreth. "No 'splaining, me no bloggin'" *harrumph*

See, you can't stay away from me.

Yeah -- it's that sticky personality of yours :) (and yes I do mean that in the nicest way:) :) )

Sorry! I have been sleeping!!!

Yes, we (I) can restore them for you :)

I am trying to remember them...evidently they were not fired or the paint would not have come off...
