My Muses

Still waiting for Devlin's test results.

Reluctant Reunion word count 3,381
Tonight's total word count 587

Sleep is an over-rated thing. Who needs it anyway? You'd be amazed at how creative one can be without sleep. Not only am I hearing the voices, but they're running races through the room. Nekkid. And one of them looks a lot like Hugh Jackman. Which helps for those who are familiar with the project. Those who don't - well, my hero looks an awful lot like Hugh. It's when they take over the computer for those stupid card games that really get to me. I mean, aren't they here to work? I don't want to hear about their lovely trip to the Bahamas. And what is it with this coy act? When I sit down to type they're off to the mall or somewhere, but when I want to sleep, oh no, can't allow the poor author to get any sleep. That would be asking too much. So I'm up until 2 stupid o'clock tapping away on the keyboard (probably hitting that "n" key a lot). And that really fouls up my day, screws with my reading time and is generally a pain in the tukus. Rene talked about scheduling on her blog. Scheduling, schmeduling. Not my muses - they call the shots. It would probably be easier to schedule tea with the Queen. Just who works for who here? Obviously I'm not the one in charge and that really irritates me, in case you haven't noticed. They eat my food, drink my liquor ... and someone's been messin' with my high-heeled shoes. Am I planning to write tonight? Haven't you been listening? I just go with the flow ...

I'll end this with a quote that I got from Sasha's blog. I don't think she indicated who said it, but it's very apropos for us writers.

"The main difference between writers and schizophrenics is that schizophrenics Do what the voices tell them and writers just put it on paper."

Update: I did do some writing tonight, but the muses decided they had rather go see a midnight movie and abandoned me at the computer. So I'm going to bed. That should bring them running back.

Well, there's always tomorrow for the Muses. As for Devlin's test results, I operate on 'no news is good news'!

I hope the test results are good. And thank you for the hugs! I do need them.

Wow Eve, you are making some good progress on your reunion story. Good for you. Maybe I should try writing late at night.

Brany's channeling Scarlet O'Hara! The doctor said it could take up to 48 hours for the results (they were sent out to a lab)

(((Olga))) - take care. We're thinking about you.

Scott - I wouldn't recommend it - my head feels like it's going to explode (or that could be the sinus problem rearing it's ugly head).

Peggy - I'm thinking about putting their faces on milk cartons. Are you feeling better?

my muses seem to have more fun blogging than actually writing in my WIPS - between that and a lately clingy 4-y-o.... (who is on my lap as I type)

congrats on getting the words ecked

LOL, LOVED the quote. As a writer, totally agree with it!

Bailey Stewart said...

Dennie - the 4-yr-old could be cramping the writing style. Hard to type a love scene with a child in your lap.

Jill - I love the quote too.

Just looked over my comments - that would be Brandy, not Brany - who the heck is Brany?

Hmmm. I believe in muses. I also believe in the physical act of 'sit down and write' when you can. It all goes back to Nora's comment about being able to fix a page. Or rather 'you can't fix a blank page.'

Emotional energy is easily sapped and you need to rest your brain often, but if you let the resting become the habit rather than the writing, you're lost as a professional writer (IMO).

Not that I'm a professional anything at the moment LOL--I need a shower!

Toni Anderson said...

PS. That's not a dig. That's me stating a profound opinion LOL. You are doing great!!

LOL actually that quote (or the original version) came from me. THe first, and only joke I ever made up. What's the difference between a writer and a schitzophrenic? ;-)

Fingers crossed Devon's test results come back good!

I actually ripped apart the second novella. Neurotic who? Me? SAdly I don't hear the voices enough these days. Which to an outsider, probably looks like a good thing LOL

My muses deserted me a long time ago so I ignore them when they try to come back.

WOW! I am proud of you! That is great!!!!!

This is an absolutely horrible week! I just wish it would end!!!!! So, I am probably not going to be a very good friend this week--to which I am very sorry, but it can not be helped unfortunately!!! UGH!!!!

I do hope that the test results come back with some answers though-preferably good ones :)

(((((HUGS)))))

Oh and I guess I need to go backwards but Olga here is a hug for you too!!!

(((((HUGS)))))

Toni - take a shower.

Cece - you mean Sasha stole it? LOL I could have sworn that's where I got it.
Maybe your muses have gone to play croquet with mine.

Bailey Stewart said...

Oh no, posters while I posted!

Rene - you want them, you know you do, go ahead and admit it. Make them pay a little for deserting them, but let them back in.

Glenice - sorry you're having a bad week. Hope things get better. Let me know if you need anything a cyberbuddy can do.

Maybe your muses are showing off their tan lines from theur trip to the Bahamas. Do they have tan lines?

Bailey Stewart said...

Nope, nada, not a one :)

TOni is right. My motto has alwasy been to treat this like a job (knowing that sometimes life interferes) unfortunately I got out of the habit of writing daily (long story) and it's been a struggle to get back to it. Now I have no choice =)

And Eve there is no stealing, just borrowing ;-)

Bailey Stewart said...

Cece - that's why I'm trying to write every night. And even if it's only 500 words (I will not let it go for any less) that's 500 words more than I wrote last week. Although what I thought was a piece of crap from Monday night, Bebo actually liked. Go figure. I still could have sworn I got that from Sasha's blog.

Christa said...

Does your avatar reflect the weather? Nope that can't be it, it did't snow in Texas yesterday. I was going to clean the outside of the patio windows today but when I look outside there was snow out on the deck. Snow=cold. I may be blond but I know that much.

Bailey Stewart said...

Nope - that's rain and we had far too much rain last Sunday. Not that we didn't need rain, just not that amount in one day. Flooding everywhere. Anyway, I was just playing with new Avatars and didn't realize each time I saved a favorite it went on the site. I wasn't ready to change the snow one - I'll have to figure out how to do it.

Oh, and in case anyone wants to know, I've just updated the toomanycats website. If you're interested in what I'm reading and what book I'm recommending.

Melissa Amateis said...

Hey, 500 words is better than zero!

Christa said...

You got Aussie Rules. Sssssooooo jealous.
Hope you get some good news about Devlin soon.

Lis said...

*hugs* Hope the results come back with good news soon!

Our muses must hang out together, mine like that after midnight appearance too. If it was up to them I'd be a perpetual night owl.

Jordan Summers said...

Wonderful progress on the story. A schedule does help. If you can figure out how to make one, let me know. *g*

Bailey Stewart said...

Christa - yeah, and its goooooooood!

Lis - so who started it - yours or mine?

Jordan - I'll have their secretary call yours. ;-)

Poor Eve! You really are having a hard time. You've got contrary characters, a cat that isn't as well as you'd like it to be, a mom that's sick; no sleep for the author; I'm assuming that the neighbor kids aren't as audible.

A big hug.

Actually, I think my mind is a lot like your muses. It's always gone whenever I need it and otherwise it's hopping from one spot to another. It just won't stay in one place long enough to really help me make decisions. Oh, well. I guess I'll just have to go with the flow too.

I hope the test results have finally come in today.

More hugs to both you and Devlin and to Olga, too. And to anyone else who needs them.

Well, Scott, I'm definitely a night person but it's hard on the hydro bill--now that I have to pay it all by my lonesome and just when the hydro rates rose by a fairly large sum. Ouch.

I can testify that good steady habits are a must. So keep up with your writing. You're doing so well. Just make your muses and characters behave (says one who can't even get herself to behave!).

Bailey Stewart said...

It's hard to make them behave when they're running around nekkid - too fun to watch, but I'm trying. LOL

Joely Sue Burkhart said...

Hey, Eve, hello from MN! It's been a crazy week. Congrats on the writing! I hope you hear good news on Devlin's tests.

Bailey Stewart said...

Hey Joely - hope everything's going well there. Devlin thanks you.

I'm glad to hear there are words on those pages. So Monday we get an excerpt? I'm waiting...

Bailey Stewart said...

Excerpt? I don't think so, not this time. I'll explain more tomorrow.
