Morning

Morning is my favorite time of the day. But it only lasts for about 15 minutes. Not what you were thinking, was it? It's that golden time when I first step out to get the paper. I'm met with the sound of quiet. Did you know that quiet has a sound? It's serenity, calmness, a nothing that is soothing to my nerves. Then the early stirrings of nature creep in, the slight shaking of the leaves as the wind blows through the tree branches. I watch one of the feral cats stalk a bug in the grass below the ramp where I stand. It dances in the faint light, jumping from spot to spot, intent on it's prey. Carefee, caught in the moment, enjoying life without fear. It spots me, wariness creeping into it's play. A swat at the bug, a glance my way. But it doesn't run for we have a tenuous relationship, this feral and I. In the distance a dog's bark breaks into the silence. The world is stirring and my time is finished. I pick up the paper and head back into the house to wait for another morning.

What about you? What's your favorite time of day?

I hope Devlin is going to be ok. That's so hard to go through.

Quiet for me has a ringing sound, induced by listening to Purple Rain too loud on my Walkman. My mornings are very nice, all alone here at the office.

Thanks Scott - it is hard.

I have about 20 minutes after my trip outside to sit at my desk in the quiet of the house. That's nice too.

Sorry about your cat. I've been having dog problems myself with Lyme's disease.

My favorite time of day? Twilight, for many of the same reasons, except the world is winding down to rest and reflection rather than enjoying the hush as it gradually awakes.

Thanks for stopping by Jason. I hope everything goes okay with your dog.

Yeah, twilight is good too.

reminds me of that Robert Frost poem they used in The Outsiders:

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf,
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day
Nothing gold can stay.

Why I remeber that so vividly... Could be Ralph Macchio - LOL!

Robert Frost - who I love - I'd forgotten about that one.

I don't know if I have a favourite part of the day. I spend most of the day reading cause I am one person and don't accumelate that many dirty dishes and I only have a 1 bedroom apt. so it doesn't take long to clean. I only watch tv from 2 til 3 during the day when OLTL is on and now when they have some of the new shows on from 8 to 11.

Oh Dennie, loved that movie. So many great guys in one movie. Matt Dillon *sigh*

Ooh - Blogger's playing up AGAIN.

Anyway, my fave time of day is bedtime. My least fave time of day is getting up time.

Bailey Stewart said...

Christa - that sounds like heaven.

Diane - LOL

Oh dear, poor Devlin. One consulation - at least you know what the problem is and have got the antibiotics to beat the infection. Hopefully. My favourite time of day? (Sorry about the British spelling!) It's got to be 3.35 p.m. when the bell goes and I sit at my desk in the classroom. Then, when the noise has died down, I pick up my books. The corridors are empty. Peace reigns. Perfect!

Christa said...

Still couldn't do the outside patio doors due to freezing rain.

Bailey Stewart said...

Siobhan - another nice one.

Christa - poor thing *gg*

My favortie time of day is late at night when the stars are visible in the heavens. The moon is either full and huge sitting just above the horizon or just a sliver of the new cresent. Standing in the back portion of the 1 acre lot our house occupies, I just almost forget I live in the city. Unfortunately, the light polution (sp?) of living in a city the size of Dallas washes out the dimmer stars, the canopy is still beautiful.

I know what you mean. For those few minutes in the morning, even the sound of traffic from Buckner Blvd. is muted or almost non-existent. I didn't mention the rooster that crows a few blocks over.

Jordan Summers said...

Anytime after noon. (wg)

Bailey Stewart said...

Ahhh, Jordan isn't a morning person.

I'd have to say my favorite time of day, isn't. It's night time, when DH and the kids are asleep and the house is quiet. There are no chore left to do, I can just enjoy the time of peace and solitide for a few minutes before putting my book away and trying to sleep.

Bailey Stewart said...

Yeah, after mom has gone to sleep - although for me it isn't always quiet - I have cats, remember?

Blogger hated me earlier LOL. I posted a big long response but here is the short version. Dawn or dusk, especially watching the sun rise or set.

Hope your Anti Bs do the trick with Devlin.

Favorite time of day? Night. Usually around 11 or 12 when I have the house to myself. Its nice and quiet, I can grab a water and settle in on the couch with the latest wip, listen to mad about you on reruns then watch Miami Vice at one while editing. My nice calm relaxing part of the day :o)

Bailey Stewart said...

Sounds great Lis :)

Lis said...

It is. So nice to be able to write without someone always walking into the room, distracting you mid thought. Plus Sonny Crockett can be VERY inspiring :o)

Bailey Stewart said...

Gads it's been years since I've seen Miami Vice. Used to love it. I don't think the reruns are showing anywhere around here.

Lis said...

I remember reading on a message board that some channel in the states was planning on showing it.
Seasons 1 & 2 are on DVD so you could probably rent them if you want a MV fix.

Bailey Stewart said...

Aren't you supposed to be writing a scathing email to some broad?

I'm just blogging while I try to figure out what to post here for tomorrow. I think I'll put in an old bravenet rerun that was a hoot.

Lis said...

Working on it. :o) Trying not to sound too ranting. Like dad said, be mature. So my comment of her riding Robidas off into the sunset I guess is a no go! *g*

Cool! Look fwd to it :o)

Bailey Stewart said...

I think that just might be over the top a little. Just a little *g*

Lis said...

*g* Darn and I thought it was one of my best lines lol

Bailey Stewart said...

Snort.

Well, I think I'm relaxed enough from work to actually go and write that blog now.

Lis said...

Cool :o)

Swing by mine for a sec if you have a moment, I posted the draft email in the comments section

Mornings? Ugh. I can't focus on anything before noon. I love the night best - when the day's over, and peace reigns, and I can relax without feeling I ought to be doing something.
