A Review

I have to say, by and large, that I’ve been pretty disappointed in the Blaze line this year. Six books come out each month, that’s 36 books this year so far, and I can count on one hand (maybe) the ones that I’ve actually liked. One, of course, was The Shalvis’ Room Service; I’m not going to mention the other two. But I will tell you, today and tomorrow about the last two that I’ve read. They show promise for the line this month and next. I’m going to review them in alphabetical order, which means that Closer … by Jo Leigh is first.

I’ll start by saying that I loved this book. In fact, I just finished reading it a few minutes ago. It’s a July release and I urge you to go to eharlequin.com and pre-order it now.

This is the first in a series about a group of people who know something they shouldn’t, who are running for their lives while trying to get those lives back. They live “just below the surface” of society, shifting from identity to identity, one step ahead of the enemy. They can only rely on each other, they can’t make friends or fall in love – it isn’t an option. Closer … is the story of Christie Pratchett whose brother Nate had been one of those people and had died because of it. Christie has a stalker who has effectively shut down her life; taken away her job, her friends, and isolating her from everything that she knew. Out of desperation she dialed a number on the back of a picture, a number that her brother had told her to call if she ever needed help. That help turned out to be ex-Delta Force member Boone Ferguson, a friend of her brother’s, who sets out to get Christie back everything that she lost. Boone can’t help but become more involved than he should, to care for Christie far beyond what is required to protect her. And as it becomes more evident that this stalker is more dangerous than imagined, falling in love can become more a liability than blessing, a distraction that could get them both killed.

If I were to put this on an Amazon scale of stars – it would get 5. I loved both Christie and Boone. The chemistry between them is palpable, the tension not only sexual but heightened by the danger surrounding them. The storyline is believable, engrossing and kept me totally absorbed in the story. Once again, I highly recommend this book.

I was also going to post the beautiful cover, but blogger isn't letting me. In fact, I haven't been able to post any pictures since their software problem last week. And if the blogger help page is any indication, I'm not the only one.

Oh, and the winners of Let's Pretend are Dennie and Trace. I need your addresses. I have more new book giveaways coming up.

And what the heck. Whenever an author sends me a copy of their book, I still buy one - so I have a copy of Closer ... on order. If you want it, just tell me and I'll draw a name Tuesday night.

Ooooh. Not often I'm here first, Eve! Thanks for the tip on CLOSER. I would love for you to put my name in for the drawing!

LOL Meretta - I was thinking the same thing. Meretta's first? Usually it's Brandy. You're in the draw.

This is a Blaze you're talking about?!
Sounds like they may be changing for the better. Maybe I'll check out Closer...

And congrats, Dennie & Trace, & a last big thanks to you, Eve! :-D

Oooh, I forgot Jo had a book out. I love her books.

I have to give some of these books a try some time. I only have time for one book in a three week span. Books on audio are about all I have real time for any more. I'm looking into the classics now, Hemingway and that lot. I'm not sure who I am Eve!

I think I've been able to post pics since last week ... or is it blogthings I'm thinking of? I'll have to go check now.

You will like this book - really.

Scott - you might like this one because the emphasis is as much on the suspense/stalker storyline as it is on the romance. As to who you are? Only you can answer that one - but I think you're a good husband, great dad and all around okay fella.

Diane - other bloggers can post pictures. When I went on the "is anybody else having this problem" part there were others who were experiencing the exact same issue as I was. It all started with that software glitch last week.

Okay everyone, Eve has been a bad girl about cleaning this house and she's about to have her comeuppance. (Love my Bob Dole impressions?) I have company from out of town coming this week - don't know which day (could be today) but it will be before Thursday, so guess what I have to do this morning instead of blogging? Well first I have to take Aidan to the vet for a check (nothing serious), and then right at it. I'm going to try to do a few blogs at a time during breaks (even with a/c going it gets hot running around the house), so it may take me a while to get to your blog. I went to the "over the pond" blogs this morning because of the time difference. Donna Kauffman's because of her Monday morning contests and, of course, to The Shalvis. I'll start with the top of my bookmark list when I get my next break.

Brandy is a night owl!
I haven't read a Blaze in ages. LOL--I learned some hot stuff from some of those books. I like the idea of the changes to the line and that book sounds great.

Trying again...Blogger hates me!!! I can't wait to read Closer--I've been looking forward to it for months!

Kelly - do check this one out. Like I said, on the whole, I've really been disappointed this year. But hey, winning it would be a good way to try one.

Stacy - it is a good series. Don't tell anyone, but I've kinda seen the second book. Shhhhh.

Toni - does that mean you're in the draw?

Joely - you too - in the draw?

Gotta get to work.

The book sounds great. I'd love a chance to win!
PS I'm really wanting Room Service. Especially, after reading that excerpt on her blog. I think I'm going to have to make a trip to the book store :). I love an excuse to go book shopping.

Bailey Stewart said...

Kelley - you can't find Room Service in the store anymore, but I just checked and it is still available on eharlequin.com. You'll love it.

Congrats Dennie and Trace!

Wow, this new series sounds terrific! Closer will definitely be put on my wish list at B&N. Add my name to the drawing.

Good luck with your house cleaning. Hopefully you'll be able to get pictures up soon, I can't wait to see your finished room!

Congrats, Dennie and Trace!

Don't put me in the draw. I just won Closer from Jo but I haven't read it yet. It sounds good! I like suspense.

I have it in my TBR pile. I can't wait to dig into it. :D Yah Jo!

I'm glad you read a good book.
You mean, you didn't like Two Hot by Cara Summers? I like most of her books.

Eve, I have a favor. My Tire - you know those pics? Well, I've got a post - I've been labeled a deviant person.
Tell me, am I?

Brandy said...

Eve, sheesh! Take one night to try and go to bed early and everyone is talking about me.
Closer sounds like a good book. I'll have to see it when it comes out next month. (I like to read the first page). The premise sounds really interesting though.

Put me in the drawing. Closer sounds like a storyline I would enjoy.

And I love the fairy avatar.

I have Closer too. I am really behind in my reading. But I'm not complaining because it's always nice when you have lots of books you can't wait to read.

There is no way I would go out and buy new books if I could get my hands on them at cheaper prices - lol. Of course if I worked in a book store I would be totally broke anyway lol.

What a great description! I don't think I have ever read a Blaze before and it sounds like a great one to start on. I would really apperciate it if you would enter me in your drawing.

Susan - two problems with pictures. 1)the study is still a shambles. 2)blogger still won't let me post pictures. And I'm not the only one. If this isn't fixed by the time the room is finished (which should be this week) then I might have to prevail upon one of my blogging buddies to post them.

City Chickie - I like Cara Summers (especially her one series, oh I can't remember the names, something like The Favor, The Dare)but lately she hasn't grabbed my attention. I'm finding myself bored with a lot of storylines in both the Blaze and Intimate Moments series - I usually end up just skipping through and reading the sex scenes.

Jeanne - and I get to borrow books - but I rarely buy books there except for the drawings. I buy 99% of my books full price. And my Amazon card reflects it.

Loreth - you ought to be ashamed. LOL

Kristie - we'll try to remedy that - you're in the draw.
