Saturday in the Park

I think it was the Fourth of Julyyyyyy. Well almost. So I was trying to think of a title, knew it was Saturday's post and that song just popped in. Soooorrrrryyyyy. (not really *gg*)

Before we're reduced to just plain silliness, let's give a shout out to Stacy who sold two books! Yay!!!!

And don't forget there's a giveaway on for Sasha White's new book Bound. Look at Thursday's blog for an excerpt. You have until Sunday night 9:00 p.m. central. Also, Lis is giving away a copy of Jo Leigh's book Closer ... that give-away ends Sunday night too.

I've had songs stuck in my head for the last couple of days. It began Thursday with The Partridge Family's I think I Love You. I could only get so far in the song before the loop would begin again. I kind of blame Scott for it, since someone mentioned it on his blog. Thank you Scott. I finally got rid of it, only to have it replaced by The Monkees theme. No one to blame there, just the way the ol' noggin' bounces. Woke up just fine on Friday (woke up this mornin' feelin' fine, ??? somethin' special on my mind - sorry, I'll try to control myself) only to go to Jill's and read that the kids were out for summer. Cue Alice Cooper, whose charcoal rimmed eyes haunted me for most of the morning. Thankyouverymuch ol' pal ol' pal of mine. Exorcised Mr. Cooper by lunch time. Ahh, pleasant silence (Hello darkness my old friend, I've come to talk to you again ... - STOP THAT!) Anyhoo, then came nap time. That blissful part of the day when I can lose myself in sleep for a few hours. I cuddled into my pillow, my mind slowly letting go of the days problems, when, out of the blue (cue Theme from Jaws) Gotta Dance ... Gotta Dance (You know, that song from Singing in the Rain?). On to gonna wash that man right out of my hair ... I got rhythm, I got music ... I hear music and there's no one there ... It's a whole Broadway extravaganza! And let us not forget ... There's no business like show business, like no business I know. Great ghost of Ethel Merman. It wouldn't stop. I expected Harvey Fierstein to show up dressed like the mother in Hairspray. I needed to go to sleep - I needed to re-energize, I needed ... Come on along and listen to, the lullaby of Broadway. The hip hooray and ballyhoo, the lullaby of Broadway. You know, the workings of my mind is a scary place at times. I finally fell asleep. Did the music go away when I woke up? Not quite. It's there (Here, there and everywhere), lurking at the corners of mind (Like the circles that you find In the windmills of your mind), just waiting for its chance to break out again (I write the songs that make the whole world sing). I think it's time for me to go to bed now. Don't you? Who knows what's waiting there for me. I'm just hoping I can get those eyes closed before it hits (Though the world is fast asleep, Though your pillow's soft and deep. You're not sleepy as you seem. Stay awake, don't nod and dream. Stay awake, don't nod and dream).

And before I forget - Aaron Spelling has passed away. Now this may not seem like much to some of you, but for those of us from the 60s. 70s and 80s - well, there was always a Spelling program we loved, be it Daniel Boone, Honey West, The Mod Squad, T.J. Hooker, Dynasty, Hart to Hart, Charlie's Angels, Fantasy Island, S.W.A.T., The Rookies, Starsky and Hutch, Family, Vega$ ... and even in to the 90s with Beverly Hills 90210, 7th Heaven and Charmed. He was a force to be reckoned with.

Good Night Aaron ... and just for you:

Love, exciting and new
Come Aboard. We're expecting you.
Love, life's sweetest reward.
Let it flow, it floats back to you.

Love Boat soon will be making another run
The Love Boat promises something for everyone
Set a course for adventure,
Your mind on a new romance.

Love won't hurt anymore
It's an open smile on a friendly shore.
Yes LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE! It's LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE! (hey-ah!)

Bailey, you stole my post idea talking about Aaron Spelling's death, but you did it MUCH better than I ever could as your memory for the words to Love Boat says it all. I remember having significant abdominal surgery, and recovering on my mother's couch back in 1983 - Love Boat was on 3 different channels at 3 different times of day - I'd eat and sleep in between the times of the show and that's how I recovered for about the first three weeks. I think I probably saw the whole first season that way...quirky but fun.

You mean songs pop into others peoples heads too? How about commercials? I do the bandaid one from the 80's whenever I see a banaid, or Oscar Meyer theme song when I buy Dh some lunch meat. Now I'm got Barry Maniloe runnig through my head, thanks so much!!

I was very sad to hear about Spelling. PHENOMENAL man--all that productive work!

And I REFUSE to get into this song thing again! Are we, like, long-lost cousins or something??
(one pair of matching bookends...different as night and day...)

Laurie - as I listed the shows it was as if all of my teen and early adulthood years were rolling by.

Brandy - you're welcome. I do commercials too (hold the pickle, hold the lettuce, special orders don't upset us, all we ask is that you let us do it your way. Have it your way, have it your way ...)

Raine - we are family. I've got all my sisters with me, we are family ...

I didn't hear about Aaron Spelling!!!
Wow, breaking news!

I LOVED SWAT! Theme song - I have two versions of the music on my computer. And Fantasy Island complete with Tattoo's "Da Plane! Da Plane!"

Did he do Vega$ to? Loved that Robert Urich, who started in SWAT - well, actually, he died in that stupid BULLDOZER movie about the bulldozer that was taken over by a maelevolent entity that arrived via meteorite. I think that was Roberts first role anyway. Stupid movie. Killed off a future heartthrob. At least Aaron Spelling was savvy enough to recognize true talent.

Pop songs in my head? Very popular problem. Having kids, I have SpongeBob, in my head. Do you remember the DiFranco family?
HEARTBEAT, IT'S A LOVE BEAT, AND WE WE MEET, ITS A GOOD VIBRATION .....oh a heartbeat, it's a love beat ....

How about Leader of the Laundry Mat?

Ahab the Arab? Purple People EAster? The Streak?
Theme to Super Chicken?
We Will Rock You by Queen.

Yes, my mind is full of zany toons ... love it!

Michele said...

Argh! Not Purple People EASTER!!!
Eater1 Eater! Although, that would be a color song for the holiday,LOL

Remember any songs from Paint Your Wagon? My Favorite is the Wind is called Maria ... What a hauntingly beautiful song.
Songs from Finian's Rainbow? How are things in Glocca Morra? Gives me shivers.

OK, now I'm on a musical roll - gotta get my headphones on!

City Chickie - The Theme from S.W.A.T. was one of the few songs I could play on the piano. I used to play it and my nephew, who was about 8 or 9 then, would run through the room with an imaginary gun and leap over furniture like the S.W.A.T. guys. Funny memories.

A way out here, they've got a name for wind and rain and fire. The rain is Tess, the fire is Jo and they called the wind Mariah.

When the idle poor Become the idle rich You'll never know
just who is who or who is witch.
Won't it be rich Whenever wants poor relatives, becomes "Rockefellative",
and pans no longer itch
What a switch!

Naw, don't know any music from those two shows. *gg*

I was so sad when I heard about Aaron Spelling - so much of my youth was shaped by his TV!

Have a good weekend

oh - Love the Unicorn!

Since I haven't been watching much TV or listening to the radio much these days, I had not heard about Aaron Spelling! So sad! I watched so many of his shows.

Now all those tunes are stuck in my head aaarrrgghh!!!

Aaron Spelling gave us many good memories! He will be sorely missed in TV Land.

I saw Dennie's comment about the unicorn & had to go back to check, I had completely missed it. But I didn't miss that the Avatar is in the Library. LOVE that!

I've got a cold right now so the only thing in my head is the sound of my heartbeat. It's not such a bad sound, all things considered. ;)

I loved 7th Heaven. I watched all 10 seasons. I was sad to see it end this year. Didn't he try his hand at the soap Sunset Beach and put his son, Randy, in it.
Thanks now I have songs going trough my head. Talking about Alice Cooper reminded me of when I was young and foolish (now I'm no longer young) we went to one of his concerts and were 2nd row from the front, on New Years Eve.

Here in Canada we celebrate Canada Day on July 1st. I always tell my son they are setting off fireworks for his birthday cause his birthday is July 1st.

Thanks a lot Bailey, now I have songs running through my head too! TV commercials leave me humming tunes also. The Monkeys song was just on, so that is what I'm humming right now.

I'm right there with you growing up with Aaron Spelling's shows. Loved them all. He'll be sorely missed.

ROFL! Great songs you got stuck in your head!

Very sad about Aaron Spelling. I'm planning to discuss him today, too.

Spelling's name was on practically every TV programme that I watched. Amazing man. Eve, those tunes are in my head now. But I really enjoyed your post. :-)

You're Susan the Silent
Is this what it's like to be mortal?
Is every girl, the only girl?
I'm beginning to like it.

Oh my heart is beating wildly.
And its all because you're here.
When I'm not near the girl I love, I love the girl I'm near.
Every fan that flutters by me, is a flame that must be fanned ....When I can't fondle the hand I'm fond of, I fondle the hand at hand, my heart's in a pickle, its constantly fickle, and not to particle I fear,
When I'm not near the girl I love
I love the girl I'm near ....

I was born under a wandrin star, I was born under a wandrin star,

I was born under a wandrin star. Mud can make you prisoner and the plains can bake you dry, snow can burn your eyes but only people make you cry, home is made for coming from, for dreams of going to ,which with any luck will never come true....

Nope, I don't know those movies too well either..
*giggle**

A wandrin' , a wandrin star.....
hmmmmmmmm

Poor Aaron. A TV icon! I did always think it kind of sucked that Tori got in on 90210 though. Not sure she could act her way out of a hay bale.

But he was amazing.

Bailey Stewart said...

Thank you Dennie - I thought she was cute (of course it's a she)

You're welcome Sandy, I do my best to make everyone's day. LOL

Bebo - I try to do that every Saturday - and it's not the library, it's a bookstore silly. *gg*

I hope you get to feeling better Meretta.

Christa - 7th Heaven has been picked up for another year by this new network whatever it's called. The one from the merging of UPN and WB. And yes, he also did Sunset Beach.

You're very welcome Susan. sing, sing a song, sing out loud, sing out strong ... *vbg*

Tori - oh, I've had some real winners before. There was a man who had a dog and Bingo was his name-O ... I had that one stuck for almost a week. I'll get over to your blog.

Stacy - kudos go where kudos are deserved. I don't know anybody (except maybe those under the age of 20) who hasn't watched at least one Aaron Spelling show.

Hey Ms. Pimp - love the word verification. Yes, Aaron's stuff was real special.

Siobhan - I just love to spread ... sunshine all over the place, and put on a happy face. I can't help myself folks. I know this will sound stupid, but I never think about other countries having watched our shows - and yet I knew, for instance, that Dallas was a big hit in England.

City Chickie ...
I look at you,
and suddenly something in your eyes I see,
soon begins bewitching me.
It's that old Devil moon,
that you stole from the sky.
It's that old Devil Moon in your eyes
.

I talk to the trees
But they don't listen to me
I talk to the stars
But they never hear me

The breeze hasn't time
To stop, and hear what I say
I talk to them all
In vain

Harumph!

Bailey Stewart said...

Hey Toni - yes he was, and he was from Dallas which is why he was on the front page of our newspaper this morning. Grew up here, graduated from high school here, attended and graduated from SMU.

Do you feel a warmish, kind of glowish, kind of pecularish sensation?
No, its a sort of a quiverish, a shiversih, fibbertygibberish sensation.
Does it make you feel hummingbirds in your heart?
Butterflies in me feet!
Bees in your bonnet?
Stars in me britches!
It makes you want to dance,
Well, I hadn't noticed that..
And sing?
It Does? It Does?

Something sweet,
something sort of grandish,
sweeps my soul when thou art near,
My heart feels so sugar candish, my head feels so ginger beer.
Something so darish, so I don't carish, stirs me from limb to limb,
Its so terrifish, magnifish, delish, to have such a averish glamorish dish.....

I love me leprechaun-ish!

OK, ok, I'll stop. Was having so much fun.
I HAD to come back here to do this...since blogger ate my HUGE and insightful clever post,my hair frazzled, my eyes crossed in consternation and my brain sqeezed in terror trying to remember even a quarter of what I wrote, argh!!!!

You are a boon to my brain, Bailey!

City Chickie -

Sharon, where is Glocca Morra?
Well, it's not on the map, Woody. It's just a far off place, in father's heart.

So to ev'ry weepin' willow,
To each brook along the way,
To each lad that comes awistlin'
Tooralay.
Tooralay.
May we meet
in Glocca Morra
one fine day.

Oh no you don’t, missy! Uh-uh. There’s no way I’m going to allow myself to be sucked into this whole singing business again, you hear?

I mean, honestly, first you come over and tempt and tantalize me--poor, brave struggling dieter and hapless foodie that I am--with lip-smacking mentions and references to bazillion-calorie goodies that I most definitely should not be thinking about, and then you expect me to tear myself away from a rare occasion of disciplined-weekend-writerliness to get caught up in the song lyric thing again?

Nope. I don’t think so. I’m still trying to block out the images of those foods you brought to my attention. Sinfully addictive food that…food… Mmmmm…food… No! Must. Not. Think. About. Food. Food. FOOOOOOOOOOD… foooooooood

Food, glorious food!
Hot sausage and mustard!
While we're in the mood --
Cold jelly and custard!
Pease pudding and saveloys!
What next is the question?
Rich gentlemen have it, boys --
In-di-gestion!

Food, glorious food!
We're anxious to try it.
Three banquets a day --
Our favorite diet!

Just picture a great big steak --
Fried, roasted or stewed.
Oh, food,
Wonderful food,
Marvelous food,
Glorious food.

Food, glorious food!
What is there more handsome?
Gulped, swallowed or chewed --
Still worth a kin's ransom.
What is it we dream about?
What brings on a sigh?
Piled peaches and cream, about
Six feet high!

Food, glorious food!
Eat right through the menu.
Just loosen your belt
Two inches and then you
Work up a new appetite.
In this interlude --
The food,
Once again, food
Fabulous food,
Glorious food.

Food, glorious food!
Don't care what it looks like --
Burned!
Underdone!
Crude!
Don't care what the cook's like.
Just thinking of growing fat --
Our senses go reeling
One moment of knowing that
Full-up feeling!

Food, glorious food!
What wouldn't we give for
That extra bit more --
That's all that we live for
Why should we be fated to
Do nothing but brood
On food,
Magical food,
Wonderful food,
Marvelous food,
Fabulous food,
Beautiful food,
Glorious food!

Aaaccckkk! I give up!

I totally loved a bunch of his shows. I forgot he did Hart to Hart and Vega$. Man, I remember watching those when I was little.

I've got a bunch of songs in my head, the funniest one of which is a play on the song Elvira, but substituted with hockey stuff for the Oilers playoff run. Makes me laugh every time I hear it.

Michele said...

OhWow, That sounds so familiar but I can't place it.
Daisy, put me out of my misery. What is the name of the food song?????!!!!!!

BTW- you beat me in the sheer volume of lyrics. Kudos!

Michele said...

Bailey, do you have what I have ... the album by chance?
*giggle*

Daisy Dexter Dobbs said...

Michele--it’s “Food Glorious Food” from the musical Oliver! Ever since the first time I heard it years ago it’s been one of my favorite songs and tunes. Probably because it’s an ode to my all-time favorite topic. LOL

Bailey and all--Oops--I got so carried away drooling over the thought of eating something other than rabbit food that I totally forgot to say how sad I was to hear about Aaron Spelling. :-(

Bailey Stewart said...

Ah Duchess you beat me to it. Yes, that's from Oliver!

I'm so wicked Duchess, please forgive me. *gg*

City Chickie - yes, I had the album, used to have the video too but it got eaten by a VCR that went wacko.

Thanks Lis - now I have Elvira stuck in my head. You're so sweet.
