Before

Still at it. Hopefully we'll finish tonight. And then the long, arduous job of unpacking. Here's some before pictures.

You can't really tell here, but it was a dark green with light green trimming. When it was first done it was pretty, but has worn out it's welcome (about 13 years worth).

Ah yes, this one is a little bit better - see it's not that dark. But the green is prettier than the picture shows. And that border - well, let's not ask Susie what she thinks of that (took her quite a while to get it down). Look - I have a ghost orb near the a/c vent. Wow.

And heeeeere's Susie. She says that this is her best side. Those shelves that she's standing next to are what I have to work on today. All of that taping is taking time, but it does give a cleaner line. This built-in unit around the side window was there when we moved in. The original family (we're the second owners) had two boys and this room was built for two. There used to be a built-in desk under the window, between the two units, but I had that taken out years ago. There are two closets in here too.

Anyway, have to go now or I won't get anything done. I'll be back on a limited basis tomorrow - I plan to rest most of the day (I am so sore), and then there's the moving of boxes and unpacking (both rooms as I haven't unpacked anything in the bedroom yet.

I'm sure you answered this question somewhere along the line, but what color are you going to paint it?

Those are really nice pictures. I'm so used to white or pale peach or whatever, that when I see a nice colored room like this I get the "envies". That's one thing about colors, though, I guess. After a while you do tend to get tired of them or they no longer match new things you get.

I love that shelving unit. All my shelves are boring book cases made for pb books. That's why I don't buy that extra size. They're just a tad difficult to get out once they're on the shelf and, I think, too expensive. And I don't know where they get the idea from that they're easier to read. For me, they are definitely harder to hold open and I can hardly see what's written in the middle.

Can you send me at least one of your closets please? I just have 2 tiny ones right in the entrance--no door, no curtain, no nothing. And I have so many clothes, some that I've had half my lifetime from before I went to live in Germany. I've already given away bunches but I've still got some in storage which I intend to sort out as soon as I can get at them, i.e., as soon as I can get somebody to drive me down there to pick up the suitcases they're in.

I can imagine you're sore. That's one reason I don't get much done here in cleaning up, that and the lack of closet space. It's driving me nuts. One of these days...

Hugs and I pray for strength for you. May God lessen your pains.

Great "before" pics, Eve. Can't wait to see the "afters". Hope it's all going according to plan!

Wow, I would kill for built in bookcases. I bet the room is going to look fantastic when everything is finished. I'm still trying to get my Dh to help me do the living room. I'd do it myself, but I can't reach the edge of the wall that meets the ceiling, even when standing on a chair. Can't wait to see the finished room. Try to rest before you get too tired.

LOL Eve - I've been seeing you everywhere (shhhhh).

That wasn't me - it's my evil twin - just ask Donna Kauffman. Every time I take a break, my evil twin takes over. I repeat - Eve is not on-line, don't believe everything you see. ;-)

Eve hurry back we miss you!!

Ruby when I moved in my house my familiy helped me paint. Honest to God they thought I was certifiable because every room is a different color! Only the hallway is white *ggg*

I have one wall of paneling in the living room that I can't decide what to do with it (paint it purple like the trim in the kitchen or a red to match the couch hehe)

Eve
I'll be sore with you. Got to my sister's at about 10 this morning(had to get up at 7:30).We talked and had coffee for about an hour and then she said she was going to the gym and I could start on the yard work. I got all the edging done in the front, all the danelions pulled in the front, the side of the house (where it's really hard to get a lawn mower in)weeded and raked and the danelions pulled in 3/4 of the back yard(it's not a small yard either. It fits 6 large trees in it.)Now my back is sore, I have blisters on my fingers and my knees are sore(remind me again we I like coming here)

I love the pics, Eve, and can't wait to see the 'finished' pics. Best of luck with it.
Glad Bebo's A/C is fixed. Hm. I've just switched the heating on. It's cold here.
We've all missed you!

Oh! That's why the Tire was graced with your presence, LOL
Break Time! *giggle*

Lots of luck to you that you finish soon!

I wish I had that room for my 2 kids. The two closets sounds heavanly!

Remember to use your knees when you lift. Don't want you wrenching your back!!!!

the shelves are nice except they are not adjustable - the height you see on each level is what you get. Dad put in those little shelves inside the end piece. That used to be where those old stereo speakers would go. The stereo on the desk with a speaker in each unit. Well, when speakers got smaller it was just wasted space, so he made it more shelves. But back to the height thing. I keep non-fiction books in the study, and I keep them in groupings - all WWII books together, Native American books in one place, etc. It makes it hard to keep organized if a book won't fit on the shelf, but will on the shelf below it.

Hey Jill (waving)

Bebo - don't get me started about boxes.

Susan - I managed only one margarita :(

Glenice - I told you not to lift that paint bucket *gg*

Melissa - it's a latte color and the shelves/trim is bright white. Looks really clean and bright. The couch and curtains are red. I'll post pictures when everything is settled.

Ruby - the closets are packed solid. In fact I'm almost afraid to open them in case something jumps out at me.

Siobhan - it went according to some plan, not sure whose.

Brandy - that's exactly why I needed Susie. My inner ear won't allow me to get up on ladders/chairs or to stand with my head tilted back. I remember when I used to paint this entire room by myself. (well, dad did the trimming - he didn't like for me to do it. After getting loads of paint on the quarter-round, I can understand why.)

Cece - is the couch on that wall?

Dennie - LOL. Don't hold your breath.

Toni - it was/is.

Marty - it's really an awesome room too. They don't build them like this anymore. Except in the winter it's the coldest and in the summer it's the warmest - something about those windows. I'm hoping the curtains will help with that.

Christa - I think I'd rather paint.

Missed you too Sandy. I did manage to get the avatar changed. Went back to regular SBC Yahoo Mail - did not like that beta thing.

Lis? Smoothly. Um, no.

Shirley - missed you too. And I don't want to hear about how cool it is there. *gg*

Michele - I went to the tire because no one else would see me - now you've told on me. Shame on you. *gg*

Peggy - I used to love the color of this room - but after 14 years I was tired of it, plus the couch that was in here was a hide-a-bed and after all of the trouble getting the thing out nobody wanted to bring it back in, so it stayed in the living room. So I had to do something with the red-plaid couch and/or its solid red slip-cover. (we had to buy the slip-covers because Neely Shae decided that the back of the loveseat was the best place to sharpen her nails).

Cece, I guess for as long as I can remember we've always had either wood paneling or beige/off-white/pale peach on our walls at home. We'd then liven them up with paintings or pictures. In fact, just now I'm trying to figure out what to do with the one wall here that does have wall-paper on it--there's a big hole in it where the light-switch *should* be. Instead, it's behind the door like the phone jack is on the bottom of the sink/couter which was covered up by the fridge.

The way things are in this apartment boggles the mind. No rhyme or reason. I've got telephone lines all over the floor in what passes for the kitchen/living room. One connection is for my phone in the bedroom, the other for my computer. I'm not about to put either my computer or my phone on the kitchen counter.

Anyway, the wallpaper is black and gold and white patterned sort of like a Byzantine medallion every 6" or so. On whole wall of it. I've been trying to figure out what to put on it. I've decided to go with some large posters with nothing too fiddly on them. One is a Da Vinci picture of some sort of weed or flower in brown on beige for an architect's conference my father belonged to. Then I have a poster of Canadian Inuit (Eskimo) art that I got at an exhibition in Germany and maybe I can use either one of my brother's big black and white photos or another poster to balance everything. I'll have to see.

I'd really prefer to get out of here but that's way too expensive. Moving all my boxes of books is THE problem. I know we used at least 150 boxes that I can't even carry and some smaller ones.

Bailey Stewart said...

I don't even want to think about moving all of these boxes around, let alone 150. *gg*

Dennie - Eve and I were discussing coming to your place to paint but decided the cost would be too great. We can't afford to fix the mess we would leave behind. LOL

But Eve, by the time you mentioned my mention when I mentioned, you are here online already so it makes perfect sense!
See?
