A Journey Through Weird World

I'm going to wax philosophical now. Yes, me. I can do that, watch and see.

I've been going from blog to blog reading peoples responses to the recent "6 Weird Things About Me" meme. And, with some exceptions (and you know who you are), everybody was pretty much in agreement that we didn't see a lot of "weirdness" in the lists. That's because we creative folks live in our own reality that's quite different from others. Different doesn't mean bad, it just means ... different. This goes for all creative endeavors - writers, painters, crafters, anything that involves the imagination. We live there. We exist in that realm of "what ifs," "why nots" and especially "why can't I?" You readers are probably thinking "What does this have to do with me? I'm not creative." But you are. When you walk into a museum and see a painting that draws you in, when you read a book that keeps you involved, you are connecting on some level with the artist/author. There's a part of you that recognizes yourself in their work. When you read a book you join the author on their journey - your imagination soars with them. Everything that a writer does involves a part of themselves, whether its a characteristic they share with the hero/heroine, a place, a mood, a nightmare, we're there if you look hard enough. And because of this, you know us, you live in our world if only for that brief time. Writers have to be a little "weird" so to speak. In our work we open ourselves for the world to see, we allow you into our dreams, hopes, the private fantasies that most people would be too embarrassed to share. So I say we're not "weird", we're unique. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Book Draw: And the winner is ... everybody! What? You read right, everybody. My backstock box is overflowing and needs some cleaning out in order to add new stuff, so I'm having a blowout. I'll probably do this every once in a while - I just won't tell you that's what I'm doing because I'm mean like that. I have the addresses for most of you, but the others need to go to my profile and email me with your snailmail addresses. Those people are: Brandy, Michele, Sandy, Tori and Kristie. Oh, and Toni? Yours will be a little late because Saturday night, after the third margarita, I let Susie borrow it and read it - after all, she's not going to keep it. I knew you wouldn't mind since she said such nice things about Her Sanctuary, which everyone needs to purchase, BTW.

Awwww, cool! I never win anything. As for creativity....I try to be creative in different ways. The best way for me seems to be baking. Not your usual creative outlet, huh? I like your idea of regular people eing creative by being drawn to others works.

First folks, always make sure you are wide awake before clicking on login and publish. *gg*

Brandy - Well now you can't say never.

Raine - Oh, did you think I was talking about you? (Eve, nonchalantly studying her nails)

Diane - you're welcome.

Michele said...

Brandy forgot to mention her creative POETRY!!!!
But I won't let her. naner-naner!

The byplay between you and Raine is so CUTE! as in, reading it made me giggle. Always a good thing.

We all are winners?! That is so groovey! Muchas Gracias Eve.
It'll be SO nice to get something in the mail besides bills.
Romance!! Woohoo!

Michele - Thank you so much for enjoying the Raine and Eve Show. Future episodes TBA.

I've been tagged for the "6 Weird Things About Me" and it's hard to come up with stuff that people might think is weird. After all...to me, I'm normal!

Bailey Stewart said...

Meretta - You're about as normal as the rest of us. :p

Anonymous said...

Well, I've been called "weird" by the rest of my family for so long, I have no really clear idea of what "normal" is. So... Here's to all us weirdo creative types, wherever we are!

Toni Anderson said...

LOL! I'd share with anybody but Susie? Well Susie is definitely special *ggg*

You're special too Eve. Special and unique. I guess you haven't read my weird things yet ???

PS. Having slept with Meretta I could give you a couple of things for the list ;-)

PPS. As in shared a bed. At conference. hmmm.

Bailey Stewart said...

Bebo - you are weird - that's why we get along so well.

Toni - Thank you sweetie! And about the other thing ... :O

Christa said...

See I knew there was a reason I called you Godess of the World.

Bailey Stewart said...

Christa - that's Queen of the World, I'll be a goddess when I lose about 100 pounds :p

Your such a sweetheart! I think we are all winners just by getting to know you.

As for the creativity thing I could not agree with you more. When I am restoring pictures the family knows better than to even try to talk to me. It's not that I get upset I simply don't hear them. My mind just sort of travels to the time and place the picture was taken. I don't know if this makes any sense, I guess you can just say I'm weird! LOL

Be happy to contribute!
(As long as I continue to get the star billing...)

Bailey Stewart said...

Susan - you are not weird - you are "unique" :)

(As long as I continue to get the star billing...)

That's only because Eve and Raine sounded like I was trying to say "evening rain" and "rainy eve" sounds more poetic. I could have said Laverne and Shirley - but that was asking for too much trouble. :p

Anonymous said...

well and beside Laverne and Shirley got cancelled! :)

Weirdness is totally a state of mind! And wow what a state of mind it is :)

Bailey Stewart said...

Glenice - And I do love living in this state. :p

Rats, you took my thunder,
I was going to suggest using the word Y for and in Spanish and it would then be
the Rain y Eve show.

On a dark and Rainy Eve, shadows danced with the leaves, bending backwards over branches in graceful romantic dips. Dark mists swirled around the trunk's firm pole only to shudder in ecstasy from the caress of stiff winds.

Yep, what a show!

All right Michele - love that imagery! Raine y Eve indeed!

Bailey Stewart said...

Wonderful imagery Michele, great writing!

I would agree that us creative types view the world through the filter(s) of our creativity. I'd like to think that because I'm a creative person, I am open to what the world has to offer with a bit more tolerance and acceptance than the average person. I know I can sometime play devil advocate taking an unusual and sometimes unpopular view, just to see what reaction I'll get. Anyway...

Michelle, nice imagery indeed!!!

**blush**
Thanks, everyone!

It was kind of fun!

I LOVED this post, Eve. You nailed it about creative people and their innate weirdness.

Of course, it’s great fun to read about everybody else’s weirdness when you’re as normal, sane and levelheaded as I am. :-0

Let me just conclude by saying…

A horse is a horse, of course, of course,
And no one can talk to a horse of course
That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mr. Ed.

:-D

Oh no they're at it again...

That was a great blog and very eloquently written. I guess you're right. Through every book we read by the same author we get to know him or her better, we share in their creativity espeacially if they write about the creative process. Through all the blogs you write, I get to know you better. You really are a wonderful person--and don't you ever forget that. Each of us is unique. I'm just finding out the deeper implications of that. We can't follow anybody else's plan for our lives.

I'm in the midst of writing you an e-mail. Not sure when I'll finish it, but I will get it done soon.

And thanks so much for having a "blowout". That means, I guess, that I'll finally get a book about Chartres. Yippee.

After reading some other comments, I agree that I thought I was normal with weird traits, or vice versa. Who cares? I guess my family thinks I have to be just like they are; to them I am weird and they don't know what to do with me. Thanks, Eve, for putting up with me and having these profound thoughts. You really are a sweetheart.

Ha!
Sometimes you feel like a nut,
Sometimes you don't!

I guess today I'm a Almond JOY!

Great post Eve!
grinning at some of the comments :o)

Love this post, Eve. I agree that we all have some creativity inside of us,even those that believe they don't.

Bailey Stewart said...

Take a nap and the thundering herd arrives. Sheesh.

Susie - you're a singer, ergo you are creative.

Michele - you're welcome.

Raine and Duchess - all I have to say is:

Out of the night,
When the moon is bright,
comes the horseman known as Zorro.

Bebo - yes we are and do you have a problem with that? Why aren't you working?

Ruby - you're a sweetheart too.

Michele - And now a word from our sponsor.

And what are you smiling at Ms. Lis? That I've been called cute, special and unique AND a sweetheart. You're just jealous *ggg*

Thank you Melissa, the same Melissa who has finished her book and is about to mail it off to the agent. Keeping fingers crossed.

Lis said...

*g* Darn, you know me so well.
Don't you know by now, there's some little alarm that goes off when you sleep so we all head here to leave you tons of messages :o) hehe

Bailey Stewart said...

Lis - so that's what that is, I just thought it was indegestion. *gg*

First off, thank you so very much for the book - what a sweetheart!

I also really enjoyed your blog.
To me being normal is just being a conformist and someone who never wants to think for themself or outside the box - how boring. I guess I've always been one to prefer open-mindedness. I've always loved anything artistic be it music, writing, art, etc. Unfortunately, I was never agressive or confident enough to follow through but my youngest seems to have the same traits which I encourage.

Bailey Stewart said...

Jeanne - you're very welcome! And thanks for the compliment.

I think a lot of people have an inherant creative side that they have never encouraged. I'm glad you're youngest is showing his/hers.

Meretta said...

Toni, you are what Simon would call a naughty minx! ;) It's true though, we did sleep together. In Reno.

And if I'm as normal as the rest of you, I guess I'm in good company!! :D

Bailey Stewart said...

Meretta - she is a little minx, isn't she :)

Toni Anderson said...

AT least I know what it is ;-)

(unlike Kelly :))

Bailey Stewart said...

Hi Toni - how come you always know when Meretta and I are talking about you?

Danica Favorite said...

Sadly, I think we're all weird... but the rest of the world would consider us normal.

I love seeing all the other NORMAL people!!!

Hello Glenice (there would be one of those waving smilies here if I had one)

Dear Quaint Little Creature,

I know, I am a big hard on myself. Most days I try not to be, but some things are so hard to change.

I said it in the post and I'll say it again - I think the commonality is just the creative parts of us.

Thanks for dropping by.
