That's the journey of a writer, long and winding. Ups and downs, rejections, joys, acceptance, laughter, tears, community, and yet a sense of loneliness. The road is bumpy, often full of potholes, and yet it's one we gladly follow, for we are writers and writing is a part of our soul. Join me on my journey.

Here, There and Everywhere
I know I just posted a picture of Bailey the other day, but since he's the subject of today's post I thought I'd put in another one. And yes, that was Devlin.
So I had this great morning of writing planned for Sunday. Bebo was going to be gone for the day, mom is usually quiet in the mornings, I was excited about the book again (still am). Everything was set. I didn't count on Bailey and his claws and his teeth. Have I mentioned that Bailey is only 11 months old? He still has kitten ways and we're still training him. But I don't think this fetish will ever be solved. You see, Bailey likes kleenex and toilet paper. He'll even shred the TP on the dispenser (for lack of a better word). If you leave the roll on the cabinet - he'll jump up, grab it and then run into the living room, shredding as he goes. So I got up Sunday morning - went into the bathroom, did my business - reached down for the paper and found an almost completely shredded (practically full) roll. I wasn't happy - and I had had enough. So I woke mom up around 7:00, got her breakfast, told Bebo bye and headed out to Wallyworld. I bought this little chrome canister with a lid. It's sitting on the cabinet now. A little awkward, but Bailey can't get to it. Anyway, it made my morning late and just put a damper on the whole thing. I find that I write best either early in the morning or late at night. So I didn't get as much done as I would have liked.
Anyway, thought I would also send you to a couple of places. Rene has been posting about types of heroes and I think mine are Gammas. What about you?
Kelly attended the RWA Silicon Valley "Prepare to Pitch" Conference and will be sharing tidbits about it this week. Should be a lot of interesting information.
Raine's book Let's Pretend has received a wonderful review at Dear Author.com. Go check it out.
Siobhan has this really funny bit from novelist Andrea Semple's Writing Tips newsletter. It'll give you a giggle. Siobhan's site is comment restricted to bravenet members only, but you can leave comments on the tag board.
Okay - I've probably forgotten someone's post - oh, wait - Did you ever have a crush on an anime character? Michele has - go and see if Race Bannon (of the original Johnny Quest) is the man for you. Anyway, my apologies if I've missed someone's great blog. Catch you next time.
UPDATE: I only thought I was going to go to bed early.

Lovely kitties. I know what you mean about things interrupting or messing up your schedule. The words can be really hard to get, then.
I did manage to get a bit done, but it was hard to get into the groove after being out with all of those people.
I, too, have a kitty who shreds tiolet paper. Layla loves to take her agression out on the paper in our MB. It's really funny to get up in the middle of the night, not quite awake, and reach for the paper and have confetti in your hand. Sorry to hear that you weren't able to get much writing done. Maybe it'll be different today(tonight)?
It would be a little different if mother didn't insist on the expensive Cottennelle (sp?) - we just can't afford this little "fetish".
I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to write tonight or not. I'll open it and look to see if anything inspires me. I kinda want to sleep though.
Oh man, that stuff is so hard to clean up. My middle daughter did the same thing although she could shred it like a kitty can. I had a lousy writing weekend myself. Hoping we both have better weeks.
You and me both. It's a little awkward with that canister - but I'm not getting rid of the cat.
awe, what a cute pic!
I have a two year old who decorates the house with TP. A cannister would not stop her. ;)
And just because I think it's funny, the word verification is ohbumy
Eve, what lovely pics. Aw, bless.
I'm with you on the writing ... the slightest distraction and I've given up on the day.
Oh, and I love Danica/Dream's word verification. Very funny. :o)
Tinker is about 7 and when we got her we were told she was about 12 months old, but as she still chased her tail, we thought she must be younger than that and placed her at 6 months. She still chases her tail - it's her favourite pastime, especially when she's at the top of the stairs. It seems the quickest way down is to roll with the end of the tail clamped between the teeth. And at about 7, she STILL shreds tissues, bites and scratches.
Bailey sounds like fun.
Danica - what a great word verification.
Shirley - at least I didn't give up and managed about 1,000 words that day.
Diane - LOL about Tinker - I can just picture the rolling. Bailey doesn't bite (well, the little excited nips) or scratch, so we can live with the toilet paper thingy. He is fun. And he trills.
Nice word count!! And very inventive TP solution ;-)
I've had crushes on several animated guys. Though I'm not sure Race Bannon was one. Hmm. He may have been. Also Speed Racer and, even more, his brother Racer X. Roger Smith from The Big O. Most recently The Flash from Justice League. *swoon* ;)
I'm in, I'm in - blogger is finally up!!!!!
Peggy - Thanks. I'm kind of proud of the word count myself.
Toni - The canister thing is still a little awkward, but we're working on it. I couldn't believe it when I hit word count on the tools menu and it came up over 10,000.
Tori - Your comment was the one that let me know people could finally get in. Oh yeah, Speed Racer - but didn't he have an older brother - because I think that's where my crush was.
That is such a nice picture!
You could just keep the bathroom door closed. I think that would solve the problem!
Ah no, one of the litter boxes is in there. When you have four cats they say one litter box per cat. I had thought of doing that, but couldn't figure out another spot to put one, so it was a good idea. Besides, mom would never remember to keep the door shut.
Yeah, Devlin was real sick there and Bailey was bathing him. It's a keeper.
Such a sweet picture :o)
Hope the canister solves the problem.
Congrats on the word count! You're really moving along *g*
Hey Lis - it feels like it. Mom hasn't been feeling well today, so I didn't get anything done this morning.
Our cat never did outgrow the toilet paper fetish, but on the upside she's an excellent mouser so perhaps there's some correlation?
Meretta - If we had mice ... but he is good about getting these large cockroaches that we call Texas cockroaches, I'm not sure what they're called in Canada.
Eve
My sister has one litter box for both her cats.
Whenever my friend's bring their dog over we shut the bathroom, my bedroom and the kitchen doors otherwise we would have stuff all over the house. If he can't have the toilet paper, he's happy with the empty toilet paper roll.
Yeah, one litter box for two cats is fine. Four cats for two litter boxes isn't. Yeah, Bailey loves the empty toilet paper rolls.
Love the pic - a poignant memory of Devlin. Sounds like fun and games at your house. I expect Bailey is missing his playmate. Hope the canister works!
And besides which we actually have 5 cats using 4 litter boxes if you count my kitty Jack-jack.
And Way-to-go! on the word count! Don't stop now!
And Racer X was Speed Racers older brother & MUCH cuter/sexier than Speed, but IMHO still not as hunky & pure Alpha as Race Bannon. ;>
Siobhan - yes, Bailey is still missing Devlin. He's irritating the others a lot.
Bebo - Racer X - yes, that's who I had a crush on.
Eve, I write usually in the evenings, but sometimes squeeze in moments during the day if I can. Your cat is too cute!
Thanks for the link! =D
Bailey says Thank you. And thanks to you for the information.
Eve my Ham did grow out of it..........he just to be just like Bailey, kncoking paper towel rolls off the counter, going after toilet paper and leaving it shredded all over the house. But somewhere around the time we moved, he did stop!
Oh Thank you Cece - that's heartening words. I'll keep saying that over and over ... he'll stop, he'll stop, he'll stop ...
Wow! I'm late getting here!
^&$% Blogger!
*sigh* I don't have a cat story to share.
I could mention that when I lived at home (read-single), we had a cat, that when he was stressed, sucked his tail. It was very interesting waking up in the dead of night and hearing that sound.
BTW -thanks for the "shout-out" about my anime crush post!
That was sweet of you!
And thanks for mentioning it to Bebo! It was a treat getting her spin on Race! Woot!
yeah on the word count!
Our dog, Doobie, has chewed up several perfectly good garden hoses. I don't look for my husband to keep him around much longer.
My goodness but you get some traffic! I've been a little distracted lately, so I'll be back tomorrow to visit.
Excellent progress on the Reluctant Reunion. I have trouble writing three paragraphs for a short story, so I am in awe. I gotta quit being such a perfectionist.
Hey, have you been paying attention to the draft?
Love the picture. Actually I've heard one more litter box than cats so I have 6 lol. I have an 11 yr. old cat that never out grew getting the t. paper on the sly so we have shelves up high that we have to use. They also detest closed doors lol. I got a kick out of hearing your cat "trills." I have one that does that too. With 5 I have one that does almost everything. But they are all so unique too.
Michele - yeah, it drove me nuts too. That's the longest I have had blogger go down, I don't know about anyone else. It sucked it's tail? That's the first time I've heard that one. And I know what a big fan Bebo is - she loves Race Bannon and I've heard her lament about the "new and improved" version.
Dennie - Yay me on the word count *gg* Unfortunately, I haven't written today.
Melissa - Poor Doobie. There are products and things that can be done to discourage that, maybe he could try some. I just didn't think spraying anything on TP would be good for US.
Scott - yes, I saw that we got an OL. I'll pay more attention to that when training camp opens up. I did see that our number one pick is Parcell's new water boy. I've always felt that short stories were harder to do, so my hats off to you in return. Yeah, for a longer book it is hard to let that perfectionist to sit back and wait until you get things written down.
Jeanne - no, don't tell me he might never out grow it! And yes, Bubba hates closed doors, will bang on them endlessly until they're opened.
Wow! Look at that word count. You go girl.
Suze - Thank you, thank you!
LOL re: Race. The drawings might have been "new" but never improved.
To say he was improved is an insult to alpha males everywhere.
Were I to write a story about a man like Race Bannon, it would be retro to the 1960's. No question.
No man should take orders from a kid, no matter the height of their IQ and no man - who is a trained and lethal body guard - ask a woman, "what do you think" - in times of extreme duress.
Unless she's a trained kickbutt heroine herself, of course.
But that's not how they were drawn, hence , my point.
*ahem*
Sorry, WAY off target to your post.
*cough*
It's okay - we were talking about it anyway, weren't we?
mmwahhh!
Thanks for the link, hon. :-)
I had a shredder too. He grew out of it, so there may be hope...
And I used to think Race Bannon was da BOMB!
Raine - you're welcome! Nope, Racer X for me.
