The End is Near

Well we're movin on up, To the east side. To a deluxe apartment in the sky. Movin on up
To the east side. We finally got a piece of the pie.
Not that end - the end of Bebo living here. She moves out the weekend of the 20th - 21st. She's not going to be that far away, closer than where she was before she moved in here. That will be good - especially for those times when I've had to call her to come over in the middle of the night. Anyway, I have to work the next week to get my stuff here in the study boxed up. Not only the things that will be moved back into my bedroom, but the rest of the stuff here in the study. We figure (Bebo, Susie and the mouse in my pocket) that since most of the room and shelves will be empty for the move(I have 8 of the 14 shelves filled with bedroom stuff now), this would be a good time to paint the study. Do it before the couch comes back in and the non-fiction books in the packed away in the garage fill the shelves back up. Sound good to you too? So, on the 20th and 21st Susie and I will be painting. I will also be off-line that weekend - it'll be easier to paint without having to step over cords while the desk is pulled away from the wall. I'll post before and after pictures.
I've discovered something else while I've been back in this room (I think I mentioned that the study was once my bedroom in my teen years). Before, we had dial-up, so the computer wasn't on all of the time. With DSL it is and it really heats up the room in these high temperatures. Didn't notice it so much in the winter time, but it's really bad now. I'm going to have to turn this thing off from about noon until sundown - until the move is done. I'm sweatin' bullets now and the A/C is going, plus the ceiling fan and another fan. Just too much heat for me. The heat index for Tuesday was over 100. And you could see the air - the ozone is going to be bad this summer.
Anyway, I'll try to get some writing done early in the morning or late at night - but this computer has to be closed down by 10:00 or 11:00 in order for the bedroom to cool down enough for me to sleep.
That said, since it is 9:00 now I better decide whether I'll be writing tonight or in the morning.
UPDATE: You must - and I repeat must - go over to Daisy's blog today. Too, too funny.

Sounds like a good idea, painting while you've got the space and time to do it. Good luck with that :o)

Good luck with the writing if you've decided to try that tonight. I'm still trying to reign my muse in from the other night. I need the synopsis repeated (didn't have my tape recorder nearby to get it down the first time)

Painting sounds like a great idea. Have you picked a color? As for the heat, sorry to hear it. (California was bad like that when we lived there. Car dashes would crack because of the heat and sun.) You have a good idea about shutting down the computer because of it. Good luck with the writing!!!

Lis - just tell them who's in charge Hey, get back here ... don't pay attention to them. Now what was I saying? Oh yes, you're the writer, it's your book and ... What did I tell you? let's see ... yeah, and you get to ... oh, nevermind, I have some muses to rein in. *sigh*

Bailey Stewart said...

Brandy - that is exactly why this computer is being shut down right now - it may be 83 out there right now, but I guarantee it's still in the 90s in this room.

Geez, I can't believe how hot it is there. It stayed in the low 60's all day. I'm sick of it.

One nice thing about my laptop is that it doesn't put out as much heat.

I thought Bebo was moving in with you for good. At least she won't be far away for when you need each other. Good luck with the moves and the decorating.

Painting makes such a difference to the look and feel of a home. My wife watches Design on a Dime every day, and they are always starting with rooms that are white. If they only painted the transformation would be radical.

As for the heat, you should pick up an air conditioner to offset the heat that builds up in your room.

not that I want to see Bebo move - but think.... more room for books - LOL!

Bailey Stewart said...

Rene - it won't be so bad today since the high is expected to be in the lower 80s. At least not bad for some people - but for the high heat sensitive people like me ...

Diane - thanks. No, Bebo just moved in because at the time of Howard's death she didn't have a job that could support her, and when it got to be December with still no job and money gone she had to go somewhere. Now she has the job, saved up the money and has the apartment. So she's outta here.

Scott - This room is already a dark green (not bad - it was pretty at the time), but it's tired looking. For years dad wouldn't let us paint the walls anything other than white. The A/C idea sounds good, but in this neighborhood - um, no. The house next door was broken into by someone taking out the unit and entering through the window. And because of the set-up of the windows in this room, one of those cage things wouldn't work. I'd love to have my own personal A/C. Actually, my hot flashes would love to have their own personal A/C.

Dennie - Yay!!!! And no more cats that don't get along - no more having to keep her door shut.

Peggy - both Bebo and I are headin' the hell out of here after we're through taking care of mom. She can't be moved - bad for Alzheimer's patients, so I'm stuck here until it's done.

I could have put off this painting, but since the room will be over half-way vacant, it seemed like the perfect time.

Weezie and George! Haven't thought about them in years.

Happy move for Bebo! Happy painting, boxing, sorting, cleaning, staying cool, writing and caregiving to you, Eve!

Hey now! You watch how excited you are about me moving out... I'm watching you know, and I might get a complex or something... thinking you don't want me anymore... *snort*

Actually I'm excited about not having to fight w/ the cats wanting out of the room all night, and being able to unpack my books and just having my own things about. :)

Bailey Stewart said...

Meretta - you're so Happy this morning. *gg* I think the WIP might be put on the backburning during all of this moving. We'll see.

Bebo - I love you sweetie - but not having any doors closed all of the time will be nice. This will be the first time in 6 years I will not have to separate any cats.

BEBO!! How exciting for you :) I have not heard much about the job...so it must be going good :) I am so happy for you! Even though I KNOW you love living there.

So, what is the new color? And that green was pretty...I liked it...how about a nice sunny yellow! That is supposed to keep you pepped up :) you know that could be good for the study and writing!

I only WISH it was that warm here! I am so tired of being cold! Went to Kendall's game last night and had to wear a coat! UGH!!!!

Oh and I was reading through yesterday's blog and my comment never showed up??? I wonder what happen to it?? Oh Well!

A painting we will go, a painting we will go, Hi Ho the dairio, a painting we will go...

Christa said...

Hopefully Susie is more of a help than a hinderence while painting *gg* and Bebo sounds happy to have her own space.

Brandy said...

An idea. If the room gets so hot, pick a color that will make you think cool thoughts!!!

My dad was painting the porch yesterday and got some help from one of our cats. Not really the kind he wanted but help nonetheless. LOL Good luck with your project!

Melissa Amateis said...

Ugh. Hot weather. I am SO not ready for it.

Bailey Stewart said...

Glenice - I don't know what happened to your comment. Sometimes I think they just die and go to blogheaven. I know that there was a lot of problems with blogger yesterday. I'd love to just repaint it the same colors (wouldn't have to do the ceiling then) but it wouldn't go with the red couch that's coming in here. We're painting it the same color as the living room and hallway. Remember how great that couch looked with that color wall.

Susie - I couldn't do this without you. The fumes from the trim paint sets off Bebo's asthma, so she wouldn't be able to do it.

Christa - As much as I love her, I'm looking forward to have my bedroom back.

Bailey Stewart said...

Susan and Melissa - you posted the same time I did!

Susan - that's an idea - we could tie brushes to the cat's tails. *gg*

Melissa - it's miserable already. I've used the inhaler almost every day now AND woke up around 3:00 this morning with an asthma attack.

Bailey Stewart said...

Brandy - the color is a (help me Susie, Bebo or Glenice) latte like shade? Cool and calm.

Toni Anderson said...

Sounds like a good idea!! Have a great move Bebo! You'll miss each other!! (maybe ;-))

Way behind on everything. Had 200 emails in my box this morning! Have opened 3! Darn it. Ugh. I'll get there later, but first feed kids and school.

XXX

Bailey Stewart said...

Toni - we think so. 300 emails! Wasn't me. *gg*

That Texas heat sounds miserable, Eve! I loved Chicago but hated the heat and humidity there all summer--and then the icy cold in the winter. Here in Oregon (moved here a few years ago) we have rain in the winter, but gorgeous weather the other three seasons.

Good luck with the painting. I need to paint my workspace because it’s too dark. The trouble is moving all of my crap out of the room! LOL

Thanks for the mention about my latest blog post. As you can probably tell, I had loads of fun putting that whacky google-story post together. ;-)

Okay, I’m off to do what I’m supposed to be doing now--WRITING! :-D

Thanks everyone for all the good wishes on the move. It's bittersweet for me, but exciting nonetheless. I've loved staying with Eve & Mom (and Hey! not living under a bridge!) but it's time to move on.

Eve: Yes, the color of the paint for the room is cafe au lait, or latte, or cappuccino - coffee, heavy on the cream. A nice neutral background for anything you want to throw at it (HEY, no throwing the cats!)

And Daisy: Portland & Seattle are high on my list of places to move to! Of course, my friend in Chicago is voting strongly for that area too... ;>

Siobhan said...

Good luck with the painting! We're redecorating the en-suite bathroom at the moment. The mess is unbelievable. Btw congrats on the word count (says she enviously).

Anonymous said...

I love to paint--gives me time to chew over ideas and plots and characters and coversations and you get the idea :)

Bailey Stewart said...

Daisy (and Bebo) well, humidity just knocked Chicago low on the list. It's because the room will be half-way emptied out that it's even being painted now. Your post is worth the mention. Hysterical! Now, get to work.

Bebo - bittersweet here too.

Siobhan - don't be envious. The word count hasn't changed in a couple of days, and might not until after the move.

Marty- I used to like painting. Now, with this inner ear problem I can't get up on ladders (hence the need for Susie). And I can't do ceilings - standing with my head tilted back will make Eve light-headed and fall down BOOM!

Jordan Summers said...

She's a riot. *g*

Bailey Stewart said...

Jordan - yes she is *gg*

I got my book today, Eve - THANK YOU. It gets read after I finish the sequel to the book I finished last night and then the Shalvis I got from you too.

Good luck with the move. No cat fights or closed doors will be nice and getting your books out too!

Bailey Stewart said...

Jeanne - I hope you enjoy it. Yes, the open doors will be a change. Before, with Siobhan, Cassidy and MacKenzie we always had to keep the bedroom door shut. This will be real different. I'll have to keep the bedroom decent - it's door is off of the living room. Yikes!

Michele said...

Wow! Major changes!
Hope the day you paint isnt' as hot or humid. Hot is good for drying though.

Saw Google post. LOL! I have done that before but NEVER took it to the level that Daisy did. Pure genius!

*sigh* only 55 degrees today. Damp, raw and cool. Guess I'm lucky.

Have a safe and successful move, Bebo! All the best to you.

Bailey Stewart said...

Michele - only 73 today (w/heat index of 76) - what a difference from yesterday with it's temps in the 90s and HI of 101. This has been really weird weather.

Lis said...

hehe our muses must hang out together. I sit at the computer ready to write and they take off mentioning something about sand and sun. Well dang it...

Sounds like a great color for the room. Very cool and soothing I'd think :o)

Sandy J said...

Hi, Eve! Long time - no blog, LOL! Have been so busy with our chapter's conference and then working at my regular job. And I have missed everyone!!

I got The Star Witch I won! Thank you, thank you, thank you. The funny thing was I got in the mail the other day and with so much going on (and short term memory loss or something), I had forgotten about it coming. I called Dennie and told her that the book fairy sent me a book in the mail as I didn't know who it was from. She roared with laughter reminding me you were sending me one.

Thank you, Ms Book Fairy!

Bailey Stewart said...

Lis - are you feeling better?

Sandy - Book Fairy says "You're Welcome"

Lis said...

Starting to. On the 3rd hot water bottle of the day and can now get out of the chair without wincing. Gonna try a dose of tylenol later, see if that'll do anything or not.

Bailey Stewart said...

Well, I'm paying bills. Can you hear me screaming clear up there? I don't think Tylenol will help any. :(

Anonymous said...

So if I get a vote...Portland or Seattle :) I know you don't want to live in Boise...way too hot for you! But Portland and Seattle are only an hour or so away by plane, plus, I have clients in both cities :)

Coffee heavy cream is a good description of the color Bebo...very soothing and warm.

Bailey Stewart said...

Okay - Glenice says Portland or Seattle. Plus I have a favorite cousin up that way too.

Lis said...

hehe, so that was you I heard? :o)

Bailey Stewart said...

Yeah, that was me, hollarin' like a girlie girl.
