Poor Thursday

You know, Thursday is such a pathetic day. Nobody really loves it, well they don't hate it either - that's reserved for Monday, but it's no TGIF, not even a Hump Wednesday. Some might argue that it's the same for Tuesday - but Tuesday isn't so bad, after all it means that Monday is over. People actually look forward to Tuesday. Songs have been written with Tuesday in it. Nope, Thursday is a long forgotten day - sort of like my other blogs. Others may say "but Thursday means it's closer to Friday, so that makes it important." Phewy. It short-changes it. Think about it. "As soon as this Thursday is over - it's Friday." People want Thursday to pass by quickly. In some places it's even referred to as Friday Eve. It's true that Thursday has a designated holiday every year - Thanksgiving, but that's not because it's Thursday. It's just another excuse for some to take a long weekend. Oh, and then there's Maunday Thursday - but that's not exactly a time for joyous celebration. What would have happened if Crusoe had named his noble side-kick Thursday instead of Friday? Or His Girl Thursday instead of His Girl Friday - honest, Cary Grant would have been just as good whatever day of the week. Why didn't this happen? I'll tell you why - it's because Thursday is boring, that's why. Here's just a few more: Thursday Night Lights, Thursday in the Park With George, Thursday Night Football, or even Rainy Days and Thursday. You can't tell me that Karen Carpenter couldn't have sold that one. Are you starting to get my drift? Poor, lamented Thursday. I say we honor this noble day. I say we unite against oppression, lift those chains of sorrow from those sagging shoulders, stop the abuse of Thursday. Everybody stand up and say "I love Thursdays and I'm not going to take it anymore."

I LIKE Thursdays!

Means I'm just around the bend from Friday, which means I'm closing in on the weekend.

And ANY day beats the crap outta Mondays...

Try Rhyming Thursday with anything.

Furzday
Blurzday
Herzday (sounds like a day off for women only - I like)
Jerzday - have to wear nothing but Jerzeys that day.
Mersday - Have to kiss a merman on that day
Purrsday - Have to kiss your kitty(ies) and scratch them until they purr
Tersday - Isn't that celebrated in the Bronx?
Zerzday - tribute to Dr. Suess.

Eve, you didn't know what to post? I didn't know how to comment.

Amazing what we can come up with..ya?

Brandy - that's great. See, you look forward to Thursday.

Kelly - atta girl.

Raine - that's what I'm talking about. Thursday, to you, is a means of getting to Friday. Tsk, tsk.

City Chickie - I like Herzday.

Woke up with the sinus headache from Hell. Don't know how much blogging I'll get done, just want to go back to bed, which I can't do until after mother is up and had breakfast.

I don't care as much anymore. I don't go out on Friday night anymore, so all the days of the week blend together for me. Work for me is kind of fun, so I'm not always happy about Friday.

Bailey Stewart said...

Scott - I know all about the days of the week blending together. That's the other reason I hate the fact that my shows are all done - sometimes that was the only way I knew what day it was. :(

Carol M said...

I feel the same way Eve. All the days blend together and are pretty much the same to me except for what I watch on tv. I do babysit on every other Wednesday for my daughter but now that school will be out soon that will stop, too.

Bailey Stewart said...

For some reason I'm okay with the date - it's the day of the week that keeps confusing me. As long as I know it's Thursday, I guess that's all that matters (wouldn't do to show up at work on the wrong day. *gg*).

I like Thursadys. Feels like I can survive another week of motherhood!!

Thursady is how they spell it in Wales.

I really love Thursdays! It's the one day of the week I can get up early and enjoy being all by myself for thirty to forty minutes! I know that doesn't sound like much to most people but to me it's like heaven. :)

Eve, Hugh Jackman is on a repeat of Leno on the 30th.

Kelley Nyrae said...

Poor Thursday! I never thought of it that way (hehe). Heres to celebrating Thursday!!!

Bailey Stewart said...

Toni - really? Sounds like me after a few margaritas. ;-)

Susan - oh that is heaven. Thanks for the Leno headsup. I just watched Hugh on Regis and Kelly. Ahhhhhhh ...

Kelley - I just have some weird thought processes sometimes. Have I ever told you about Unday?

I've been sniffing varnish for a week as my husband does our wood floors and am feeling a little braindead myself . . .

I've always liked Thursdays. It usually is the first day of the week where I don't have anything to do and I have time to do some writing. Friday is almost identical in my mind.

Thursday...just another day in the week! hee hee!

Actually I love Thursday too, it means that I get to go home :) When I travel for work, we come home on Thurs night :)

Which reminds me...I am back out on the road again! The first time since Christmas--it has been a great break :) but I am ready :)

I like Thursday just fine. Liked it better when Survivor was on, but still. :)

Paint fumes? Yeah. We've got them too in our en-suite bathroom. Yuck! Thursdays this year are good for me as I've got nice classes, i.e. no 11-14 year olds (I teach them at the beginning of the week and they're HARD WORK). My favourite age group is 15-18.

Melissa Amateis said...

I like Thursdays, too. Just means one more day before Friday. And Friday is the absolute BEST day of the week.

Bailey Stewart said...

Jill - so that really wasn't a bear in that photo - it was you after a day of varnish sniffing? LOL

Now see - the rest of you are there for poor Thursday, well except for Melissa who is really using it as a means to get to Friday. Tsk, tsk.

Good ones Michele.

I'm all mixed up too because my bowling league is done for the year. But the good part is I don't have to get up with only 3 or 4 hours sleep.

I finished reading Get a Clue and absolutely loved it!!!!!!!!! Have to still tell Jill. Thanks Eve.

Bailey Stewart said...

Jeanne - glad you enjoyed it. I hate it when I recommend a book and they don't like it.

Diane said...

Do you mind if I use you and abuse you to see if my pic works? Thought not. :oD

Bailey Stewart said...

How cute!

Yeah, use me and abuse me - my mantra of the week. LOL

Thursady (isn't that how they spell it in Wales?) used to be payday at one or the other of the old jobs... I don't remember which job but it was a GREAT day of the wk! Now, Thurs is the day I stay w/ Mom, and because I know i HAVE to leave work on time - and my boss knows this too - she invariably comes up w/ something that must be done AT THE LAST SECOND and it usually kicks me later to leave. We'll see how my new hours go, if she remembers that I'll be leaving work at 4:30 now instead of 5pm. I know it only took me 30min to get here from work instead of the usual hr. Lovin' that earlier/lighter traffic!
So... Thurs ain't such a bad day. It can be a melancholy day, or just a middle-of-the-road day. Fridays are way too busy, and now that I'm back out on my own, I'm sure my weekends will be crazy again like they were before.
Yeah, Thurs is an okay day for me.

And hey - can I get in on some of that using & abusing???? *gg*

I like Thursdays more than Mondays or Tuesdays, or even Sunday evenings. But Friday evening is my fave, for obvious reasons.

LOL, Eve. I joined that society a long time ago. That's why I don't have a blog of my own. Remember, I'm not a writer.

Actually, some weeks I'm definitely in the "Thursday-already?" club, like today. I was going to start redoing that questionnaire by Wed. at the latest. Well, I haven't started it yet. That's why I won't say much more (aren't you glad); lots of finger-paining typing still to
come! Double ouch!!

Oh, btw, I'm donating something for writers at Brenda Novak's Juvenile Diabetes Auction. She spelled my last name wrong and kept writing "he" about me. That's what you get with a name like mine.

I loved that Thursday rhyming log:
Herzday gets my vote for renaming the day. Who wants the God of War if you can have a day of the heart?

Michele said...

Catslady and Ruby55 -
Thanks for the compliments about Herzday.
Tickled me pink, it did.

Oh! Eve!
Can I brag?

Today, boring Thursday it may be, but today is also 21 years to the day ( well, it actaully happened on a Saturday) that me and my DH got married!

So today, this Thursday is great! Celebrated with wine and a mushy gushy card.
See? Herzday. He married ME. I'm a "her" ... When I wrote my cuties, it never dawned on me what was so special about today. I even made fresh homemade buttermilk pancakes and didn't even remember WHY I was compelled to do so.
Love is in the heart, sometimes you do things unconciously but they work out great, because they are divined and guided by love.

How's that for mushy-gushy?
Have a great night, Eve and all!

Bailey Stewart said...

Bebo - nope, that's between Diane and I.

Olga - so Thursdays would be your second favorite?

Ruby - good for you, even if she couldn't get the name right. That was nice of you.

City Chickie - Happy Anniversary.

Lis said...

*sigh* Cary Grant, love him!! His Girl Thursday, hmmm, would have been an interesting title.

And I like Thursdays, they're a good day. A little more relaxed sometimes then Friday.

I'm already a member of the I Can't Think of What to Blog About organization ... I don't even need the paint fumes.
Actually, I don't mind Thursdays. Probably because the days sort of blend into each other.
